SPECIFICATIONS

The Geology, Geochemistry and Geophysics Science Center (GGGSC) in Lakewood, CO requires an ion chromatography instrument (ion chromatography) for determining the concentrations of select anions and cations in aqueous samples. This instrument is needed to replace an existing ion chromatograph that routinely provides analyses for the Mineral Resources Program (MRP) and Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI) but is nearing its serviceable lifetime.

Anionic species are key chemical parameters of aqueous systems that can impact the mobility and toxicity of dissolved metals. Ion chromatography is the standard method for determining anion concentrations. Ion chromatography is also versatile at measuring various important cationic species and the ability to measure anions and cations simultaneously by ion chromatography is advantageous for many applications. For example, measuring both the anionic and cationic species in sulfide mineral fluid inclusions provides important constraints on mineral ore formation processes. Ion chromatographs with automated sample introduction and dilution and auto dilution of calibration standards provides better precision, accuracy, throughput, and labor savings. In line filtration in the sample introduction system prevents precipitates that may form in the sample after field filtration from clogging guard and analytical columns. Priority service calls and annual preventative maintenance visits keep the instrument online for time-sensitive analyses.

Required Specifications

The instrument must be new and not refurbished, a demonstration model, or otherwise previously used.

The instrument must have at least two analytical channels and be capable of analyzing anion and cation species simultaneously on dedicated channels.

On-site installation and training for all components of the system must be included and provided by a manufacturer certified technician.

The system must be modular with components easily added, replaced, or upgraded.

The following system components must fully be integrated with the system software: autosampler, injectors, dilution and/or rinse components, pump heads, columns, and detectors.

High pressure pumps shall be of serial dual piston and two valve design and meet the following requirements: variable flow rates ranging from 0.001 to 20 mL/min, accurate flow with a maximum deviation of less than 0.1 %.

Detectors shall deliver high-performance conductance measurements and meet the following requirements:

measuring range of 0 to 15,000 S/cm without range switching, temperature stability of less than 0.001 oC, a programmable temperature range of 20 to 50 oC, electronic noise of less than 0.1 nS/cm (at 1 µS/cm), and baseline noise less than 0.2 nS/cm.

The complete system flow path should be metal-free and pre-installed.

The system should be designed and configured for simultaneous analysis of anions and cations of ground water, surface water, and saline water.

The system shall be equipped with an eluent production module for anion analysis that uses commercially available and non-proprietary eluent concentrate.

The system shall be equipped with an autosampler that has a minimum capacity of 100 samples.

The system must have capability for automated in-line filtration that can remove particulates less than 0.45 microns in diameter.

The system must have the capability to automatically dilute both standards and samples both in response to user programming and if the measured sample analyte concentrations are automatically detected to exceed the calibration range.

The system must be able to automatically dilute a single calibration solution to create and utilize a series of user defined calibration standards.

System must include all required consumables to fully install and run cation and anion analyses including analytical columns and guard columns.

The system must be delivered with 2000 disposable sample vials.

The system must include two additional guard columns and two additional analytical columns for anion analysis.

The instrument shall not include a personal computer or monitor.

RFQ 140G0224Q0182 Page 5 of 38

The system must be delivered with control and data acquisition software capable of controlling and monitoring a minimum of two analytical channels simultaneously. The software must be able to run on a personal computer with Microsoft Windows 11 Enterprise operating system.

The system software shall provide remote file access and full network compatibility and be capable of operating in a stand-alone or networked configuration.

The system software shall track all quality control samples and notify the user of any user-defined quality control failure.

The instrument shall have a standard one-year warranty that includes parts and labor.

Shipping of the system to the installation site shall be included.

(Optional) It is preferred that the system includes a 2-year service program that provides annual preventative maintenance visits and expedited service visits at no extra charge (Optional).

(Optional) It is preferred that parts and support for the system are available from the manufacturer or other reliable source for at least 10 years after the model has been withdrawn from the market.
