| Text3: The Institute for Applied Ecology has expressed an interest in these two pollinator projects. IAE would garner the services of Susan Waters from the WA State Native Plant Society for her taxonomic expertise with pollinating invertebrate species. Currently, Susan is currently conducting a scientific project with white bluffs bladderpod at Hanford so this effort would leverage this proposed project. | |
| Text2: A search was conducted for available contractors in SAM.gov, Small Business Dynamic search, and on the Internet. No vendors were located demonstrating appropriate and necessary taxonomic expertise with invertebrate pollinators. | |
| Text1: The R1 I&M program has received dedicated FY23 funding to support pollinator science (monitoring) on refuges. Statements of Work (SOWs), which are available upon request, describe two year pollinator science projects at Washington Maritime Complex and Hanford NM. At both locations, invertebrate pollinator services will be studied. At Hanford, the project will focus on pollinator services for the white bluffs bladderpod, which is a federally threatened species. At WA Martime, pollinator-plant interactions will be studied relative to prairie restoration at Protection Island NWR and restored plots at Dungeness NWR. | |
| Text4: This is a targeted and time limited project to fill an important information need. Therefore, we don't anticipate a need for future acquisitions. | |
| Text6: The anticipated/estimated cost to conduct pollinator-host plant monitoring at both WA Maritime Complex and Hanford NM will be fair and reasonable and provide the basis used for this determination. There exists prior experience with similarly situated studies on refuges by IAE from which to do a cost comparison in order to ensure that project expenses are fair and responsible. | |

Text5: As previously mentioned, IAE and Susan Waters have highly specialized expertize in taxonomic identification of invertebrate pollinators in the Pacific NW. Thus, IAE and Susan Waters are uniquely qualified to successfully complete this project.
