1.2 Background: The Avondale Bar Project describes treatments and activities for lands and wildlife affected by the Avondale Fire. The 350-acre fire was responded to on June 27, 2020. The fire burned in a mix of wetland, riparian and upland vegetation composed a mix of native and exotic species. Invasive globe chamomile/stinknet (Oncosiphon piluliferum) and tamarisk (Tamarix ssp.), were often the primary fuels in the high to moderate burn severity patches, with the greatest impact to the adjacent and intervening native riparian and wetland habitats. The plan will include three major goals for rehabilitation. Those goals are erosion control, mesquite treatments and native plant installation. Historically the burned area had native plant diversity and species richness which is important for wildlife habitat and watershed function. These habitat types are important to endemic species including the Ridgeway’s Rail, Yellow Billed Cuckoo, Willow flycatcher and others. See the attached maps of the unit.

PART 5 SPECIFIC TASKS
5. Specific Tasks:
Base Award:
Deliver approximately 3000-3500 potted species from the approved list below. Plants are to be grown in pots that will accommodate the root mass of 1.5 year-old plants. Top growth should be at least 15-18” above pot level to ensure increased survival but prior to plant tap root reaching the bottom of the pot to minimize root shock. Pot soil type should be a well-draining, sandy, composted mulch potting soil mix to ensure plants are prepared for transplanting. Plants will need to be “hardened” prior to delivery to encourage root development and enhance survivability after out planting.
Delivery of completed grown out plants will be to an identified area on the project site. Delivery should be timed to coincide with optimal planting seasons (Oct 1, 2022 – Feb 28, 2023). As much as possible, delivery should be staggered throughout the target time frame to allow for planting work to be completed and minimize undue storage on site. Delivery dates will be arranged in consultation with Project Supervisors and contractors.
