About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. The purpose of the RFI is to identify qualified vendors to manufacture products for the National Smokejumper Program. The Forest Service is seeking a long-term solution to provide the Smokejumper program with a custom protective face cage that meets or exceeds the current standard issue protective face covering. Anticipated quantities required are approximately 100 per year. The RFI outlines the general requirements for the face cage, including that it must be designed for all-weather conditions, meet or exceed the strength rating of the current face cage, weigh equal to or less than the current face cage (1.2 lbs), and be compatible with the current Smokejumper helmet. Vendors are requested to provide a technical capability statement outlining their core capabilities, available technology, past performance, and other differentiators that would indicate their ability to meet the stated needs. Responses to the RFI are due by June 7, 2024. The Forest Service intends to use the RFI responses to assist with the development of a future solicitation for these products and services.
