About this file

This document is a detailed course syllabus for an Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 3G Position training course, potentially part of a state and local contract opportunity in Arizona. The syllabus outlines a two-week welding class to be conducted Monday through Thursday from 0500-1530, with the organization anticipating sending 4-5 employees per class, twice annually. The 60-hour course is designed to provide students with technical understanding of welding principles for the American Welding Society (AWS) structural steel qualification in the vertical position, featuring a low instructor-student ratio and combining hands-on training with online coursework.

The course aims to comprehensively train participants in SMAW techniques, with specific goals including demonstrating welding safety, proper equipment setup, understanding welding principles, and passing the AWS structural steel qualification in the 3G vertical position on 3/8 plate with backing. Students will be required to study assigned materials, complete quizzes, and participate in lab assignments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). The training will cover technical aspects such as equipment description, joint types, deposition rates, and visual bead quality evaluation, with a mix of 4 lecture hours and 28 lab hours per week over the two-week period.
