DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

Justification for Single Source Awards IAW FAR 13.106-1 For

Over Micro-Purchase Threshold but Not Exceeding the SAT ($250K)

Acquisition Plan Action ID: COVID-19, 36C258-20-AP-1491 (Brand Name Only)

Contracting Activity: Department of Veterans Affairs, VISN 22, New Mexico VA Healthcare System, Albuquerque.

Brief Description of Supplies/ Services required and the intended use/Estimated Amount:

Beyes DuraMax X1 Extraoral Suction System.

Unique characteristics that limit availability to only one source, with the reason no other supplies or services can be used:

New Mexico VA requests Thirteen (13) Beyes DuraMax X1 Extraoral Suction Systems in response to COVID-19. The practice of dentistry involves the use of rotary dental and surgical instruments, such as handpieces or ultrasonic scalers and air-water syringes. These instruments create a visible spray that can contain particle droplets of water, saliva, blood, microorganisms and other debris. Placing the dental care providers at risk and without precautions could lead to further spread of COVID-19.

This aerosol control system removes contaminants produced during dental procedures including droplets, aerosols, blood, dust, and virus and uses the most advanced Quattro layer filtration system to kill virus and bacteria absorbed with over 99.9% efficiency. During treatments, a high volume of droplets and aerosols are produced by high-speed handpieces, ultrasonic scalers, and air water syringe that can linger in the air for up to two hours. This places providers, office staff, and Veterans health at risk of infection.

Beyes DuraMax X1 Extraoral Suction Systems will effectively remove these droplets and aerosols from the immediate treatment site thereby reducing the potential danger from dental aerosols and keep the air in the VA hospital safe and clean for Veteran patient care.
