About this file

The document is a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Description of Intended Single Source Purchase form for Coral Acceptance and Relocation services, involving Mote Marine Laboratory. The proposed contract will span 3 years, with Mote Marine Laboratory selected to outplant or transport corals provided by FDOT in Monroe County, Florida, to approved nursery/propagation and gene banking facilities. The services will be conducted under the permits of the Florida Keys National Marine Fisheries Service (FKNMS) and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

FDOT has estimated the contract value at $500,000.00 and justifies the single-source selection by noting that during previous outreach to eight different vendors, Mote was the only entity with the required permits and capacity to accept the full inventory of corals for relocation. The contract aims to consolidate coral contributions to a single entity, which FDOT determines is a more environmentally sound and cost-efficient approach. The proposed start date is posted as 5/8/2025, with the last day for receipt of information on 5/30/2025, and Mote Marine Laboratory will receive $1.00 per square centimeter of live coral tissue as financial support for husbandry, outplanting, monitoring, and reporting.
