About this file

This document is a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Segmented Flow Analyzer (SFA) System. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Raleigh, North Carolina requires the SFA system to analyze various analytes. The key technical specifications include a modular design, the ability to run 6 channels/analytes simultaneously with a throughput of 360-420 samples per hour, software-controlled pump engagement, and precise temperature control. Quotes must be submitted by June 27, 2024, and the contract will be awarded on a best value basis, with technical capability and past performance being more important than price. The solicitation incorporates relevant FAR clauses, and the selected vendor must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) database.

Text version

Minimum technical specifications for segmented flow analyzer (SFA)

• System compatible with windows based computer and utilizes USB connections.

• Fully modular design so all elements (sampler, pump, chemistry manifolds, and detectors) are all separate and able to be replaced individually.

• Capable of running 6 channels/analytes simultaneously (1 channel = 1 chemistry manifold

= 1 analyte). Need for both current analysis and room to add additional analysis in the future.

• Each channel has a running capacity of 60-70 samples per hour; given the 6-channel potential, this would equate to a possible 360-420 samples an hour.

• Pump platen can be engaged and disengaged via the software allowing for unsupervised start-up and shut-down.

• Through the software the system has the capability of automatically switching between reagents and wash solution.

• Has a leak detection system.

• Instrument runs air-segmented methods with relatively large 2 mm glass manifold components to avoid clogs.

• Does not need physical debubbling (removing air segments) before the flow cell; software capable of mathematically compensating for bubbles.

• Very accurate control of manifold heating bath temperature (+/- 0.1 degrees C).

• Each detector has its own LED light source to allow for light intensity to be adjusted on each channel individually to achieve optimal intensity for each separate method.

• Within a specific channel the detector should be a dual beam light system meaning that both the sample and reference beams are from the same LED source and reach the detector at the same moment.
