About this file
This Scope of Work details a contract for reagents to support next-generation sequencing (NGS) research at NAMRU SOUTH in Callao, Peru, focusing on entomological surveillance of vector-borne diseases. The project aims to detect pathogens in the northern Peruvian Amazon, assess risks from medically important mosquitoes and biting midges, and enhance pathogen detection capabilities.
The contract requires delivery of 11 specific laboratory reagents and kits from various manufacturers, including RNase Inhibitors, DNA preparation kits, sequencing barcoding kits, and molecular biology reagents. The performance period is from May to December 2025, with delivery to NAMRU SOUTH Callao. Special requirements include transporting all items on dry ice, and products must have 12-24 months remaining before expiration. The solicitation (ENT250004) is currently in pre-solicitation status under the Department of the Navy Naval Supply Systems Command, with Umbrella Genomics Company identified as the preferred Peruvian vendor capable of meeting the precise scientific requirements.

SCOPE OF WORK
1. SCOPE.
Materials will be used to perform next-generation sequencing (NGC), which will identify arthropod species, its pathogen and host. As part of their tasks, the Entomology Department will perform genomic surveillance of arboviruses in vectors. These reagents are needed to continue with our entomological studies with vector-borne diseases and disease-surveillance for GEIS Surveillance projects (P0052-25-N6 and P0063-25-N6). The requested reagents must be delivered in a timely manner and according to shipping temperature specifications, because of what we have identified to Umbrella Genomics Company is the only Peruvian vendor that can provide these reagents with must be delivered in a timely manner and in good condition with assurance that the reagents are adequate for our entomological surveillance.
1.1. BACKGROUND.
· Utilize pathogen agnostic approach to broadly detect vector-borne pathogens recently circulating in the northern Peruvian Amazon.
· Assess risks of medically important mosquitoes and biting midges through generating pathogen presence and prevalence data.
· Fill gaps on disease etiologies for undifferentiated acute febrile illness cases in the northern Peruvian Amazon.
· Complement completed targeted surveillance to improve Force Health Protection through awareness of previously unknown pathogens.
· Enhance NAMRU SOUTH on-site shotgun metagenomic NGS and analysis capacities.
