BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST) enables science and industry by providing essential measurement methods, instrumentation, and standards to support all phases of nanotechnology development, from discovery to production. This purchase is necessary to create user facilities for collaborative research within the CNST.

This acquisition is for two (2) fast multichannel digitizer cards with high bit depth.

The Contractor shall provide a Firm Fixed Price quotation for the following Contract Line Items (CLIN):

(CLIN) Contract Line Item 0001 – a quantity of Two (2) fast, high bit depth digitizer cards with high-end FPGA and drivers for DMA data streaming to RAM, to include all delivery. The cards should have the following minimum characteristics.

mailto:forest.crumpler@nist.gov mailto:Patrick.Staines@nist.gov

- Not less than 2 voltage input channels.

- One or more inputs configurable as trigger-in.

- Highest sampling rate no less than 200 MS/s with input 3 dB Bandwidth no less than 100 MHz.

- Sampling rates selectable from 100 KS/s or less to the highest sampling rate.

- Digitizer resolution of no less than 14 bits.

- DC coupled 50 Ohm inputs with full scale voltage range of no less than +/- 1 V and no more than +/-5 V.

- Signal to noise ratio (SNR) larger than 65 dB for from 1 MHz to 100 MHz.

- External triggering capability with pre- and post-trigger data acquisition.

- Ability to stream data directly into the computer memory (RAM) to acquire continuous time traces for all channels simultaneously, with length limited only by the amount of RAM available, up to at least 64 GB of RAM.

- 1 GS (1 billion samples) on-board memory or sufficient on-board memory allowing meeting specification 9 during possible operating system interruptions to

DMA.

- Not less than two user-defined digital I/O ports (in addition to and separate from the trigger input port) directly connected to the user programmable FPGA.

- User-programmable high capacity FPGA to apply custom, real time data processing, meeting the following specifications:

a. A sustained throughput rate greater or equal to the maximum sample rate, see specification 1 for DSP operations.

b. 80 or more dedicated DSP blocks or slices capable of:

i. Multiplying two pairs of 36 bit or numbers, i.e. 160 36 bit x 36 bit multipliers or better

ii. Functioning as high precision multiplier adders for eight or more pairs of

18 bit numbers, i.e. 640 18 bit x 18 bit multipliers, or better

c. FPGA is directly connected to the input ADCs, such that very low latency feedback can be established using digital IO from

(CLIN) Contract Line Item 0002 - All hardware that may be required to power, connect and operate two boards

a. for synchronous, simultaneous acquisition of 4 channels of data with a single windows PC.

b. For asynchronous operation in two different setups using two different PCs acquiring 2 synchronous channels each. Setups should be able to operate in separate locations, therefore sharing power and chassis is not acceptable.
