Technical Specifications/Requirements Request for Quotation: SB1341‐15‐RQ‐1021
Technical Specifications/ Requirements
I. Background
ITL Network Test and Measurement Equipment ‐ The Advanced Network Technologies Division (ANTD) conducts test and measurement research to improve the quality and timeliness of standards for next generation networking technologies. This requirements is for a high performance and high precision network test and measurement system capable of testing 40GbE, 10GbE, and 1GbE network interfaces and providing layer 2 and 3 line‐rate performance measurements, programmable traffic generation, and emulation and testing of network control protocols including: BGP4, SDN controller/switch/open‐flow, and IP4 and IPv6 unicast and multicast routing.
II. Contractor Requirements This requirement is for one specialized test system that consists of components that meet the minimum technical requirements detailed below. The contractor shall provide a system that meets or exceeds each minimum requirement.
A. Chassis / Test System:
1) Must be equipped with at least twelve (12) blade slots in a 19” rack‐mountable chassis. All rack mounting hardware must be included.
2) Test system must support at least 16 simultaneous remote users.
3) Test system must support and include the interfaces and software detailed in Sections B and C, and be capable of operating all interfaces simultaneously at full performance.
4) Test system must be capable of supporting future addition of 100Gbe cards (not included in this contract).
5) Test system must support time synchronization across all interfaces using IEEE1588 Precision Time
Protocol (PTP), Network Time Protocol (NTP), and GPS.
6) The test system may operate on either a 110 volt or 220 volt AC circuit. While a 110 volt circuit is preferred, it is not required. If the chassis supports both 110 and 200 volt power sources, the contractor shall use the 110 volt power source.
7) All required licensing, operating system, media, cables and maintenance shall be provided by the contractor.
8) The contractor shall provide 2 days of onsite installation and training support within 1 month after product delivery.
B. Network Interface / Testing Cards:
9) Must be equipped with at least Four (4) 40GbE Fiber ports
10) Must be equipped with at least Sixteen (16) 10GbE Fiber ports (acceptable coming from 40G ports via fan‐out cables)
11) Must be equipped with at least (8) Eight 1GbE multi‐mode (copper and fiber) ports
12) All cards / ports must support hardware time stamping with resolution of 5ns or better, and must support at least 64K unique traffic generation/analysis streams per‐port
13) All required SFP+ transceivers (short range fiber and BaseT) and optical cables necessary to use all ports above shall be provided by the contractor.
Technical Specifications/Requirements Request for Quotation: SB1341‐15‐RQ‐1021
C. Software:
14) Layer 2‐3 Performance Testing, Emulation, Traffic Generation & Analysis Software. Capabilities must include:
a) Full support of IPv4 and IPv6
b) Support for RFC2544 and RFC5180 Benchmarking Methodology for Network Interconnect
Devices.
c) User accessible software interfaces to emulation and traffic generation capabilities. Software
APIs shall be provided in one or more of the Python, Perl, or C programming languages.
15) Unicast Routing Emulation, Testing and Analysis Software. Capabilities must include:
a) Support for BGP, OSPF, and IS‐IS for both IPv4 and IPv6.
b) BGP emulation must support Internet scale (>500K) routing tables and the ability to input RIB dumps from Internet repositories (e.g., RouteViews)
16) SDN / Open‐flow Emulation, Testing and Analysis Software. Capabilities must include:
a) Support for both SDN controller and SDN Switch emulation using OpenFlow1.3 (or higher).
b) Support for performance testing of SDN controllers and switches.
17) All software capabilities must be supported on all interface cards and ports listed in the hardware section B. The contractor must indicate if there are any software limitations (e.g., features, performance) that are specific to any of the interfaces proposed.
