Technical Specification Request for Quotation: SB1341‐15‐RQ‐0836

High Density Server

A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) need access to a large high‐performance computing (HPC) High Density Server in order to do meaningful algorithm scaling studies, and for the testing and debugging of large‐scale computer simulations in preparation for production runs on external supercomputers of 10,000+ nodes. NIST scientists also need additional computing power to perform scientific computing for a range of research, including atmospheric transmittance, molecular surface interactions of interest for battery materials, simulation of light matter interactions for quantum computing, the development of nanoscale measurement techniques, and modeling of fire phenomena, concrete, and cement.

For the past several years, NIST has invested significant efforts in the deployment of a HPC Linux clusters to provide scientific computing resources to NIST‐scientific programs. NIST has the need to replace various components in one of its existing HPC Linux clusters.

B. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROCUREMENT

The Enterprise Systems Division (ESD) of the Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) at NIST is seeking to procure commercially available High Density Servers to be integrated into an existing NIST‐ owned HPC Linux cluster.

C. CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS.

Contractor shall provide a quantity of eleven (11) Supermicro SuperServer 60278TR‐HTFR or equivalent high‐density server chassis. Each server chassis must:

a) Contain four (4) compute nodes (servers) and occupy no more than two rack units (2U) of rack space in a standard 19‐inch rack.

b) Have four (4) hot‐swappable dual processor motherboards, blades, redundant power supplies and rail kit included.

c) Must have power supplies with the capability to power an 80 PLUS compliant (www.80plus.org)

Titanium certified power efficiency level.

d) The server chassis size must not be larger than of 2 rackmount units (2U).

Each of the four (4) compute nodes within each of the eleven (11) server chassis must contain or have the following required properties:

a) Two Intel Xeon E5‐2630v3 2.40GHz processor chips with 20MB L3 cache, 8 GT/s QPI, and support for DDR4‐2133Mhz memory.

b) 64 Gigabytes (GB) of 2133Mhz double‐data‐rate fourth generation (DDR4) synchronous dynamic random access (SDRAM) registered, error‐correcting code (ECC) memory.

Request for Quotation: SB1341‐15‐RQ‐0836

c) At least one (1) QSFP InfinBand port based on Mellanox ConnectX‐3 Pro technology and support 40 Gb/s Quad Data Rate (QDR).

d) A Serial ATA III (SATA3) interface that supports RAID 0, 1 and 5.

e) At least one (1) hot swappable 1TB 6Gb/s SATA3 disk. The disk(s) shall be accessible for replacement without removing server from the rack. The disks must have a spin rate of at least with at least 128 MB cache memory.

f) Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports.

g) Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) version 2.0 that supports the following remote management functions via a dedicated Ethernet interface:

Remote system power off, power on, and system reset

Remote bios setting

Remote system firmware upgrade/update/flashing

Keyboard, Video & Mouse (KVM) Console redirection

Simultaneous floppy and CD/ DVD redirection

Alerts provided via syslog, snmp traps, and email

Support SNMPv3 , SSH and HTTPS

h) Must include a two meters QSFP‐QSFP InfiniBand cable.

i) Must include a two meters Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet cable.

j) No Operating System is required

All equipment must be covered by a 3 year next business day warranty service that includes access to software/firmware update

All nodes must contain identical parts, including identical firmware revisions/versions and board‐level hardware revision numbers.

All equipment must have a three‐year next business day warranty service that includes access to software/firmware updates.

D. DELIVERY

Delivery shall be completed within two months after receipt of contract award.

Delivery shall be made to the following address:
