The Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) wishes to renew the licenses and support for existing processor licenses for MySQL (CSI19344117). This will allow NIST to apply security patches and updates. Oracle owns the software and Is the only vendor to offer this service.
NIST has invested a considerable amount of capital (In both financial and human resources) In applications (NIST Cyber Security Center of Excellence; Drupal (NIST Internal and external Web sites);
CASPER (Apple computer security monitor) that use this product. In addition to the cost of having to install an entirely new system onto the Government's network, employees would have to be trained on the replacement software, and the learning curve that would be created would result In a degradation of support. This degradation can be directly linked to having to learn the Idiosyncrasies of a new system, as well as having to identify new best practices.
The detriment to your organization if this specific software is not obtained (in detail):
These products are a key component of NIST's current enterprise IT architecture. The current maintenance and license support for MySQL Database Licenses and Support expired on February 28, 2015.
The developer of MySQL Database Licenses and Support, Oracle, and authorized resellers/business partners are the only companies that provide support and maintenance for the Database License.
