Page 1 of 2 7/21/2011 6:56 AM
Questions and comments from Pre-bid walk through conducted July 13, 2011 at 8:00 AM.
Windows and Doors Project
1. Need to verify if the building that is tucked in between the Job Trailers of Whiting Turner doing the B1E Project is included with the contract in question. Building has a sign in the window stating it is Building 2 Annex. Any clarification will be greatly appreciated.
Answer: This is indeed the Building 2 Annex, and it is not part of the window project “Scope of Work”, only Building 2.
2. Can the “Period of Performance” be extended from the 112 days?
Answer: The “Period of Performance” is going to be extended from 112 days to 180 days.
3. Is there going to be a need for asbestos abatement associated with these windows?
Answer: Yes, there will be asbestos abatement associated with the window caulking in Building 1. In Options 1 & 2, the determination of asbestos in Buildings 4 & 5 will be determined by the government prior to any construction, and the cost of abatement, if required, will be handled as a Contract Modification. The abatement will be the responsibility of the contractor by an approved abatement contractor.
4. Will plywood be allowed to cover over the window opening during the window replacement process?
Answer: Yes, plywood will be allowed. However, the maximum number of windows that will be allowed to be covered with plywood at one time will be four (4) windows total.
5. What is the blast proof rating for the new windows?
Answer: Per the GSA Test Protocol: GSA-TS01-2003, Us general Service Administration Standard Test Method for Glazing and Window Systems Subject to Dynamic Overpressure Loadings, the proposed windows are to have a Performance Condition rating 2, per Table 1, GSA/ISA Performance Conditions for Window System Response.
6. How are the intermediate structural columns located within the window openings to be treated?
Answer: All structural components in the window opening that would be exposed are to be wrapped with aluminum both on the interior and exterior with a matching finish to the windows.
7. Are the interior doors in the lobby of Building 1 to be blast proof?
Answer: No, only the exterior set of doors need to be blast proof.

Page 2 of 2 7/21/2011 6:56 AM
8. How are the louvers above the south door of the lobby to be addressed?
Answer: The existing louvers are to remain in place. Contractor is to include the cleaning and repainting of the louvers with two (2) coats of Rust-oleum aluminum color paint that closely matches the finish of the new windows.
9. Are the north windows in the library to be operable?
Answer: The existing middle window panel is now operable (hopper style). The new windows are also to have the middle window operable. New window screens over the operable window are to be included in the replacement, similar to existing conditions.
10. How is the existing electrical raceway on the lobby north window to be handled?
Answer: The existing electrical raceway is to be reinstalled in the same location across the new window. The contractor is responsible for the disassembling and reassembling of the electrical raceway
11. In Option 3 how are the existing doors along the east side of Wing 1 to be handled?
Answer: The existing doors, and the existing hollow medal frame, are to remain in place.
The transom panels and side panels are to be removed and replaced. The existing doors and frames are to be cleaned and repainted with two (2) coats of exterior metal paint, color to be determined later.
12. How are the “Access & Alarms” going to be handled?
Answer: The electronic components for the door access card readers will be furnished by the government, but are to be installed by the contractor. Please see the attached Access & Alarm specifications for additional comments concerning the security system.
13. Additional information concerning the interior window covering for the south windows in the library.
Answer: The windows on the south side of the library are to have new interior shades installed as part of the Windows and Door replacement project. The new window covering are to be as manufactured by Hunter Douglas, Duette honeycomb design, full length of new window, to match the existing window coverings that are existing in the previously completed window replacement in the west library.

3. All wiring must be identified and labeled as to what it does and where it is going.
4. Alarms & Access will provide motion sensors/ RQEs for each location. (1 ea. Location)
5. Alarms & Access group will connect all wiring to security panel.
6. All doors with magnetic locks must be tied into fire alarm system to release in the event of an emergency.
Fire Alarm is spliced in at power supply to unlock doors in emergency. For fire alarm, isolate existing electrical circuit, Fire Release Module cuts power to magnets.
