About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the procurement of high-precision X-ray beamline slit screens by Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) ST12.
MSFC ST12 requires two customized, vacuum-compatible X-ray slit screens with remote blade motion capability for integration into a custom X-ray reflectometer system for thin film coating characterization and research and development. The first item is a 4-blade slit (model IB-C30-HV) featuring a 30 mm x 30 mm maximum aperture, 1 micron step resolution, 4 independently activated highly polished tungsten carbide (WC) blades with 0.5 degree knife-edge, integrated high-precision guiding rail system and stepping motors, special high-vacuum preparation for <1e-6 mbar (<1e-6 Torr) compatibility, and custom DN100/40CF reducer flanges mounted upstream and downstream. The second item is a 2-blade slit (model AT-C8-HV-DEMI) with an 8 mm x 8 mm maximum aperture, 1.016 micron step resolution for aperture adjustment, 0.508 micron step resolution for translation, 2 mm-thick WC blades with 2 degree knife-edge, and special preparation for high-vacuum compatibility (<1e-6 mbar). The estimated period of performance and lead-time for delivery is 6 to 8 weeks, with the place of performance at Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama 35812-0001.

Statement of Work – High-precision slits for new X-ray ray reflectometer system
MSFC ST12 requires the procurement of two high-precision, vacuum-compaƟble, X-ray beamline slit screens that are capable of remote blade moƟon for use in a custom X-ray reflectometer system currently in development. The two slit screens specificaƟons are listed below:
4 Blade Slit: 30 mm x 30 mm max aperture; 1 micron step resoluƟon; 4 independently acƟvated, highly polished WC blades with 0.5 deg knife-edge; integrated high-precision guiding rail system and stepping motors. Special preparaƟon for enabling high-vacuum compaƟbility (<1e-6 mbar;
<1e-6 Torr). Custom mounted DN100/40CF reducer flange mounted upstream and downstream.
2 Blade Slit: 8 mm x 8mm maximum aperture; 1.016 micron step resoluƟon for aperture, 0.508 micron step resoluƟon for translaƟon; 2mm-thick WC blades with 2 deg knife-edge; Special preparaƟon for enabling high-vacuum compaƟbility (<1e-6 mbar);
Requirements:
Vendor to customize and provide a 4-blade X-ray beam slit (IB-C30-HV) and a 2-blade X-ray beam slit (AT-C8-HV-DEMI) for integraƟon into custom-built X-ray ray reflectometer system for thin film coaƟng characterizaƟon and research and development.
EsƟmated period of performance or lead-Ɵme for delivery: 6-8 weeks
Place of Performance: Marshall Space Flight Center, 35812-0001
