About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the acquisition and deployment of a Thermtest THW-L1S thermal properties measurement instrument.
The objective is to advance low-toxicity monopropellant development by obtaining a complete understanding of monopropellant characteristics and environmental impacts. The Thermtest THW-L1S shall measure thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and volumetric specific heat of liquids and phase change materials (PCMs) across a temperature range from -50°C to 200°C. Required capabilities include ASCENT-compatible wetted surfaces, fast measurement times, ability to measure samples with varying viscosity levels, and compatibility with external chiller/heater units to achieve the specified temperature ranges. The instrument must enable thermal conductivity measurements of advanced propellant materials over extended time periods. Performance location is Lab 105E in Building 4205 at Marshall Spaceflight Center. Testing shall commence in winter 2026.

STATEMENT OF WORK for THW-L1S
1. Objective/Requirements
The advancement of low-toxicity monopropellants requires the complete understanding of said monopropellants and how they are impacted by their surroundings. The Thermtest THW-L1S measures thermal conductivity, thermal diƯusivity, and volumetric specific heat of liquids and phase change materials (PCMs) from -50˚C to 200˚C.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The THW unit shall perform the following duties:
Perform thermal conductivity, thermal diƯusivity, and volumetric specific heat measurements of liquid and PCM samples.
Have ASCENT compatible wetted surfaces.
Enable thermal conductivity measurements of advanced propellant materials across wide temperature ranges (at least -50˚C to 200˚C) and over time.
Fast measurement time.
Able to measure samples with a range of viscosity.
Ability to incorporate external chiller/heater unit to enable temperature ranges.
3. Place of Performance
Lab 105E in Building 4205 at Marshall Spaceflight Center.
4. Period of Performance
Testing shall begin in the winter of 2026.
