About this file
This Statement of Work specifies the acquisition of an Instron System Retrofit Upgrade Package for NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) in Cleveland, Ohio. The Seal Team requires a comprehensive upgrade to their obsolete Instron 5584 Electromechanical Universal Testing System, which is no longer in production and lacks available parts support. The retrofit will modernize the system with current control electronics and software while improving efficiency, ergonomics, and operator safety.
The deliverables include a 6800 System Retrofit Upgrade Package configured for 150-200 kN FM machines with English language option, 1-phase 208-240 VAC North America power plug (NEMA L6-20P), and two Model 6800 Series sensor conditioner cards; Bluehill Universal Software with license transfer for existing users, testing software for the 6800 controller series, General and Components Application Module, and TestProfiler; and comprehensive services including retrofit installation, enhanced load cell force verification from 0-300 kN in tension and compression directions, enhanced crosshead speed and displacement verification per ASTM E2658 and E2309 standards, onsite software training on Bluehill fundamentals and test method development, onsite integration of NASA-supplied computer and/or monitor, Instron Connect agreement for new systems or software upgrades, and system warranty services. The place of performance is NASA GRC Building 5, Room SE-14, Cleveland, Ohio 44135, with a required period of performance of 8 weeks as soon as reasonably obtainable (ARO).

2. Background
The Seal Team at the NASA Glenn Research Center has an Instron 5584 Electromechanical Universal Testing System that is no longer in production and that Instron no longer provides parts for. The team would like to upgrade this testing system by retrofitting it with 6800 Series upgrades including modern control electronics and software to extend the life of the system and mitigate the risk of unexpected downtime.
The upgrades will also include improvements for efficiency, ergonomics, and operator safety.
3. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The upgrades for the Instron 5584 Electromechanical Universal Testing System shall include:
• 6800 System Retrofit Upgrade Package for Instron FM EM Materials Testing Systems including:
o English language option o 1 phase 208-240 VAC North America plug (NEMA L6-20P) o Retrofit kit for 150-200 kN FM machines o No pneumatic air control kit o Two (2) Model 6800 Series sensor conditioner cards
• Bluehill Universal Software update and transfer on a NASA-supplied computer including:
o Bluehill Universal license transfer for existing Bluehill Universal users o Bluehill Universal Testing Software for the 6800 controller series o English language option o Bluehill Universal for existing Bluehill Universal license o General and Components Application Module o TestProfiler for Bluehill Universal
• Services to be provided include:
o Retrofit installation on the existing 5584 Electromechanical Universal Testing
System o Enhanced load cell force verification from 0-300 kN in both the tension and compression directions o Enhanced crosshead speed and displacement verification in both directions (no load and not cyclic) per ASTM E2658 and ASTM E2309, respectively o Onsite software introduction to Bluehill fundamentals and test method development o Onsite integration of a NASA-supplied computer and/or monitor o Instron Connect agreement for new systems or software upgrades/updates o System warranty services
