About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of a Flowserve MkII control valve for United Launch Alliance (ULA) at Space Launch Complex 41. The procurement addresses the need to replace an obsolete gaseous nitrogen (GN2) meter station valve due to parts obsolescence, corrosion, and design flaws. The requirement specifies one 1-inch Flowserve MkII control valve with specific technical parameters to maintain parts commonality across the pipeline system.

The control valve must meet detailed specifications including a 7,000 PSIG pressure rating with the ability to regulate downstream pressure to 4,000-4,500 PSIG and provide flowrates up to 6,800 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM). The valve must feature a Globe body type with pressure class 4500, carbon steel body and bonnet, and 316 stainless steel internal components (plug, stem, seat ring, seat retainer, and guides). Required specifications further mandate a 3800 series LOGIX digital positioner (Part Number: 3822-34ES-D43L-0110-00), fail-open air-to-close actuator, HART standard 4-20 mA communication capability, Grayloc heavy duty connectors for integration with existing 2-inch upstream and 3-inch downstream XXS piping, corrosion-protective coating, and visual cleanliness per IEST-STD-CC1246E standard. Delivery is directed to NASA Kennedy Space Center, Central Supply Building M6-0744, Orlando, Florida 32899, attention David Whaley (SI-D2).

Procurement of CX-41 Flowserve MkII Control Valve

1.0 Background

The gaseous nitrogen (GN2) meter station used by United Launch Alliance (ULA) at Space Launch Complex 41 is in need of an overhaul due to parts obsolescence, corrosion, and design flaws. A new control valve is required to replace the current, obsolete valve. A Flowserve MkII control valve has been chosen to maintain parts commonality across the pipeline system.

2.0 Requirements

2.1. Flowserve MkII Control Valve

The Flowserve MkII control valve that is being ordered in this section shall meet the following requirements.

Description Quantity

Flowserve MkII 1” control valve 1

2.1.1. The control valve should be a 1” size control valve and have the trim rated based on handling a processing fluid of GN2.

2.1.2. The control valve must be rated to handle 7,000 pounds per square inch gauge

(PSIG).

2.1.3. The control valve must be able to regulate pressure downstream of the valve to

4,000-4,500 PSIG.

2.1.4. The control valve must connect to the 2” upstream XXS piping and 3” downstream XXS piping of the GN2 meter station via Grayloc heavy duty connectors.

2.1.5. The control valve must provide a flowrate of GN2 through the valve up to 6,800 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM).

2.1.6. The control valve must have a 3800 series LOGIX digital positioner (Part Number: 3822-34ES-D43L-0110-00).

2.1.7. The control valve must have a Globe body type, pressure class of 4500, and have the body form fabricated.

2.1.8. The control valve body and bonnet material should be carbon steel.

2.1.9. The control valve plug, stem, seat ring, seat retainer, and upper/lower guides should be made of 316 stainless steel.

2.1.10. The control valve soft good and gaskets shall be compatible with the pressure rating.

2.1.11. The control valve actuator should be fail open and air to close.

2.1.12. The control valve positioner shall communicate with a highway addressable remote transducer (HART) standard signal of 4-20 milliamps (mA).

2.1.13. The control valve shall be coated to protect from corrosion.

2.1.14. The control valve should be visibly clean per IEST-STD-CC1246E.
