About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the procurement of a Model FMPI SpectroPyrometer System for non-contact thermal diagnostics. The system must operate across a continuous temperature range of 300°C to 2000°C with 0.1°C resolution and be capable of continuous measurement or on-demand operation. The pyrometer shall incorporate an expert system utilizing 250+ spectral channels across the 900–1700 nm wavelength band to dynamically calculate true temperature without prior operator knowledge of target material emissivity. Required capabilities include real-time measurement tolerance reporting (±0.15% typical), automatic off-gas and environmental compensation to filter spectral interferences from combustion products and window fouling, and analog temperature output in 4–20 milliAmp format (with 0–20 mA or 0–10 VDC alternatives). The system must integrate into the current FMPI temperature measurement ecosystem, print results to screen and non-volatile memory log, and include raw data storage capability and 30 days of post-purchase data analysis.
Delivery is required within 18–26 weeks ARO to one of two Huntsville, Alabama addresses: Central Receiving at 4631 Saturn Rd or General Receiving at 4205 Morris Rd. The procurement is justified as a sole-source acquisition based on technical necessity, as standard single-color and two-color pyrometers fail in NASA's extreme test environments due to uncharacterized emissivity, atmospheric absorption/emission, airborne particulates, and sight-glass obscuration that only this multi-wavelength expert system can effectively address.

Statement of Work:
1. DESCRIPTION OF ACTION & REQUIREMENT
Model FMPI SpectroPyrometer System (operating range 300°C to 2000°C) for non-contact thermal diagnostics during high-temperature material evaluations, advanced propulsion testing, and thermal protection system (TPS) experiments. Accurate non-contact measurement across extreme temperature gradients (300°C–2000°C) is vital to ensure structural integrity and prevent catastrophic test failures. SpectroPyrometer: expert system multi-wavelength pyrometer with on-line tolerance and signal strength (emissivity), spectral and total emissivity correction, absorption (offgas) compensation, and integrated laser for aiming. Resolution is 0.1°C. Measurement is either continuous or on operator demand. Analog temperature output is 4 – 20 milliAmp (0 – 20 mA or 0 – 10 VDC available). Results are printed to screen and to log in non-volatile memory. Raw data can be saved to non-volatile memory for later analysis if required. Data analysis for first 30 days after purchase is included.
2. TECHNICAL JUSTIFICATION & PROPRIETARY SOLE SOURCE BASIS
Standard single-color (brightness) and two-color (ratio) pyrometers fail in NASA’s extreme test environments due to uncharacterized, dynamically changing emissivity, atmospheric absorption/emission, airborne particulates, and sight-glass obscuration.
Key Capabilities:
Continuous 300°C – 2000°C Measurement Range: Unifies low-to-extreme high temperature sensing in a single instrument, avoiding multi-sensor swaps or gaps in temperature tracking during rapid thermal transients.
Multi-Wavelength Expert System (250+ Spectral Channels): Collects discrete radiance data across 900–1700 nm, dynamically calculating true temperature without prior operator knowledge of target material emissivity.
Real-Time Accuracy & Tolerance Reporting: The system automatically calculates and reports real-time measurement standard deviation (tolerance, ±0.15% typical) and signal strength, instantly validating measurement fidelity.
Off-Gas & Environmental Compensation: Automatically filters spectral interferences caused by combustion products, plume emissions, and window fouling during active testing.
Spectral Pyrometer: Shall be capable of being integrating into current FMPI temperature measurement ecosystem.
