About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a NASA procurement of Firefly Aerospace Sol3 Engineering Development Unit (EDU) hardware for vision and AI computing applications.
NASA requires flight-representative vision and AI compute hardware to support software development, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing for vision navigation systems. The procurement involves one Sol3 Base Unit (EDU build), two Sol3 C-mount Camera Modules (one RGB with IMX565 sensor and one monochrome with IMX565 sensor, both with C-11 lenses), and one Sol3 Camera Harness configured for a 2-foot stereo baseline. All hardware must be furnished in EDU build class—flight-grade parts with chemfilmed aluminum finish identical to flight units except flight acceptance testing is not performed. The Base Unit must feature an 8-core ARM Cortex CPU with GPU/NPU providing 15 TOPS, 8 GB RAM, and 1 TB storage; 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet and dual RS-422 interfaces; 24–40 VDC input with less than 3W idle power and 30W maximum; and weigh less than 0.75 kg. Camera modules must include Sony IMX565 12.4 MP sensors with global shutter, 8–12 bit depth capability, exceeding 30 FPS at full ROI in 10-bit mode, and up to 6 Gbps per module. The system must support up to 12 camera modules with 6 operating simultaneously, include four 6-DoF chip-scale IMUs in the Base Unit and one per camera module, and include the Sol3 SDK with network command/telemetry API and hardware-in-the-loop testing capabilities. Delivery shall occur at the earliest available date from the vendor, with the vendor providing the soonest achievable delivery date at quotation and completing delivery within that timeframe after receipt of order. Warranty shall be provided per manufacturer's standard terms from date of acceptance.

Statement of Work
Space NG (firefly) EDU Unit
A. Background/History of Requirement:
NASA requires flight-representative vision and AI compute hardware to support development, integration, and test. Software development and hardware-in-the-loop testing cannot proceed with commercial-grade surrogate hardware, as the target flight configuration must be exercised to validate camera interfaces, compute performance, and vision navigation software behavior prior to flight unit integration. A dual-camera stereo configuration is required to support stereo depth estimation and perception development. Procuring an Engineering Development Unit early reduces integration risk and prevents late-cycle rework by allowing software to be developed against flight-identical hardware. No existing owned asset meets this requirement.
Firefly Aerospace (formerly Space-ng) is the sole manufacturer and source of the Sol3 vision system; no substitute provides interface or software compatibility with the planned flight configuration.
B. Description of item(s) to be purchased:
Firefly Aerospace Sol3 Engineering Development Unit (EDU) hardware, as follows:
• Qty 1 — Sol3 Base Unit, EDU build
• Qty 1 — Sol3 C-mount Camera Module, EDU build (IMX565 sensor, C-11 lens, RGB)
• Qty 1 — Sol3 C-mount Camera Module, EDU build (IMX565 sensor, C-11 lens, Monochrome)
• Qty 1 — Sol3 Camera Harness, EDU build (2 ft baseline)
C. Requirements Specifications:
All hardware shall be furnished in the EDU build class — flight-grade parts and chemfilmed aluminum finish, identical to flight units except that flight acceptance testing is not performed — and shall meet or exceed:
• Base Unit compute: 8-core ARM Cortex CPU; GPU/NPU providing 15 TOPS; 8 GB RAM; 1 TB storage
• Base Unit I/O: 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet; 2× RS-422; 2× auxiliary 12 V power outputs; isolated 5 V trigger input
• Base Unit power/mass: 24–40 VDC input; <3 W idle, 30 W maximum; <0.75 kg; 19.8 × 10.2 × 5.0 cm
• Camera capacity: Support for up to 12 camera modules, 6 operating simultaneously; two (2) modules populated under this order
• Inertial: Four 6-DoF chip-scale IMUs integrated in the Base Unit; one 6-DoF IMU per camera module
• Camera modules: Sony IMX565 sensor, 12.4 MP; one RGB and one monochrome; global shutter; 8–12 bit depth; >30 FPS at full ROI in 10-bit mode; up to 6 Gbps per module; 0.8–2 W per module; 6.5 × 4.8 ×
4.2 cm
• Optics: Flight C-mount C-11 lens on each module — 11° horizontal / 8° vertical field of view, F/4.0 minimum to F/22 maximum
• Cabling: Camera harness configured for a 2 ft stereo baseline; single 24 AWG coax per module carrying both power and data
• Software: Sol3 SDK with network command/telemetry API, containerized custom application support, and image simulation/injection for hardware-in-the-loop testing
3. Period of Performance:
Delivery shall be at the earliest date available from the vendor. Vendor shall provide the soonest achievable delivery date with quotation, and delivery shall be completed within that quoted timeframe after receipt of order (ARO). Warranty per manufacturer's standard terms from date of acceptance.
