About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for 777 Initial Flight Simulator Training services required by NASA's Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California.

NASA requires contractor-provided personnel, facilities, and training materials to conduct Initial Pilot Qualification Training for 2 NASA pilots on the Boeing 777 aircraft. The training must include both classroom academics and simulator training (left seat pilot position) covering aircraft normal, abnormal, and emergency operations; flight planning; navigation including GPS and approaches; weight and balance; engines; flight controls; anti-ice; electrical; landing gear hydraulics; fuel; oil; environmental; pressurization; and propellers when appropriate. The course must also include a flight review or instrument competency check per Federal Aviation Regulations Part 61 Section 58. All training requirements must be completed by November 30, 2026.

The contractor must provide training facilities in permanent buildings with a learning-conducive environment, including rear projection audio-visual capability, television projections, comfortable furniture, environmental controls, and dedicated quiet classroom areas. Simulator training must utilize FAA Part 142 Certified Level C/D full flight simulators with visual systems; standard commercial cockpit configurations are acceptable and exact aircraft replicas are not required. Training materials must include appropriate aircraft publications with detailed flight planning, procedures, systems, checklists, and academic outlines. Instructors must be highly qualified in aviation/aircraft maintenance with specific experience in the training course offered, and simulator instructors must hold FAA FAR 61, 141, or 142 flight instructor certificates with current ratings. Upon successful completion, the contractor shall provide each student a proficiency certificate (including student name, aircraft type, and NASA flight crew status) and a training record documenting systems covered, ground training hours, and flight training hours.
