About this file

This Statement of Work describes NASA's procurement for a Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) sensitive spectrometer to replace an obsolete unit at NASA Ames Research Center. The system will be utilized in the ESM Project to characterize shock wave properties in the Electric Arc Shock Tube, with measurements critical to analyzing high-speed planetary entry scenarios for destinations including Mars and Earth re-entry.

The primary requirement is one HP Spectroscopy High-resolution normal-incidence spectrograph (or equivalent) featuring an aberration-optimized optical design with a rotatable grating turret for three gratings, spectral range of 115-230 nm, <0.2 nm spectral resolution, 600 mm focal length, f/number of 10, and motorized software-controlled grating rotation. The spectrometer must include a black coating to reduce stray light reflections (R<5% at 200-800nm), secondary entrance and exit ports with flip mirrors, vacuum system capability to <10⁻⁶ mbar, and vacuum pump and gauge ports (CF40/2.75"). Additional technical specifications include a Crossed Czerny-Turner optical design, focal length of 300-600 mm, magnification of 1:1, maximum optical aberration of 13 micrometers, rotatable grating turrets with two or more gratings providing dispersions >5 nm/mm and <1 nm/mm, and specific port dimensions and sealing configurations for integration into the existing customer vacuum chamber. The vendor must provide detailed 3D CAD drawings or technical drawings for design verification, system installation, staff training at the customer site in Moffett Field, California, and appropriate protective shipping. Delivery is required within 6 months of award. The point of contact is Ramon Martinez at NASA Ames Research Center, Building 229, Room 157.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

The ESM Project utilizes Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) spectrometers, coupled with Intensified Charge Coupled Device (ICCDs) to characterize shock wave properties in the Electric Arc Shock Tube at NASA Ames Research Center. This procurement is for a VUV sensitive spectrometer, HP Spectroscopy High-resolution normal-incidence spectrograph (or Equivalent), to replace an older VUV spectrometer which is no longer supported by the manufacturer. Since these measurements are critical to characterizing high speed planetary entry for a variety of destinations including Mars and Earth re-entry, a new spectrometer is sought to perform spectroscopy at VUV wavelengths (roughly 120- 200 nm).

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
