About this file
This is a Specifications document for a federal procurement by NASA Langley Research Center for a compact, pulsed Nd:YAG laser system to be used in developing the Entry Navigation Sensor, a laser-based sensing instrument for flight vehicle applications.
The procuring agency requires a complete laser system consisting of a laser head, laser telescope, power supply, and associated cabling with specifications equivalent to the Arete AIRTRAC-532 (PN: 112510-0003). Key operational requirements include dual-wavelength capability at 532 nm and 1064 nm with minimum output energy of 40 mJ/pulse at 532 nm measured at 20 Hz repetition rate, variable repetition rate between 10-30 Hz, energy stability of ±10% or better, and pulse duration of 3-10 nanoseconds. The system must include a removable 6x optical telescope with beam divergence less than 0.25 mrad and beam diameter less than 35 mm at the telescope exit. Weight constraints are critical for flight application: laser head under 250 grams, electronics under 200 grams, and telescope under 250 grams. Additional performance requirements include peak power less than 100 watts, warm-up time under 30 seconds, storage temperature range of -40°C to +80°C, operational temperature range of -30°C to +60°C, and vibration resistance compliant with MIL-STD-810G or higher standards. Size, weight, power consumption, and pulse energy are identified as critically important specifications due to the flight vehicle application.

Specifications
1. Objective/Requirements A compact, low-power, low-weight, pulsed Nd:YAG laser to be operated at both 1064 nm and 532 nm is being purchased by NASA Langley Research Center to develop a laser-based sensing instrument called the Entry Navigation Sensor. The laser is being evaluated for use on a flight vehicle, so size, weight and power are critically important specifications. Also high pulse energy is better in our application so the laser’s output energy/pulse is critical but other specifications such repetition rate and beam shape are important. Environmental aspects (resistance to vibration and operating/transport temperature) are also important.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs NASA Langley Research Center is seeking to purchase a compact YAG laser. The system shall consist of the laser, laser telescope and associated power supply and cabling. Further specifications follow:
• The laser shall have specifications equivalent to the Arete AIRTRAC-532 PN: 112510-0003 with the following physical and operational specifications:
