About this file
This is a NASA Shared Services Center Recommendation and Determination to Solicit from One Source or Brand Name justification document dated July 30, 2026.
NASA Shared Services Center recommends a sole source procurement with Vention Inc. US for Spare UR3e Joint Procurement with an estimated 30-day lead time for delivery. The justification centers on compatibility and reliability requirements specific to the existing robotic system. The spare components were sourced directly from the authorized distributor of Universal Robots, the robot manufacturer, which recommends this supplier as a trusted source for genuine replacement parts. Procuring through this approved distributor ensures component compatibility, adherence to manufacturer specifications, and system reliability while reducing risk of performance issues or equipment downtime.
The document emphasizes that using spare parts from alternative robot manufacturers or distributors would create significant compatibility issues and could introduce configuration inconsistencies and integration challenges. The authorized distributor ensures components match existing robot specifications and maintain proper system operation without unnecessary downtime. This sole source justification addresses both the unique technical requirements of the procurement and the substantial impact to government operations if alternative sources were utilized.

NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION
NASA SHARED SERVICES CENTER
RECOMMENDATION AND DETERMINATION TO SOLICIT FROM ONE SOURCE
OR BRAND NAME
PICK ONE
Sole Source:
☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with Vention Inc. US only for Spare UR3e Joint Procurement. The total estimated cost of this effort is and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 30 days ARO.
OR
Brand Name Justification:
☐I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate only with vendors who can provide the subject band name from Manufacture Name for Enter Supply or Service to be procured. The total estimated cost of this effort is $ and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is Date.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
These spare components were sourced directly from the authorized distributor from which we purchased the robot arm. This supplier is highly recommended by the robot manufacturer, Universal Robots, as a trusted source for genuine replacement parts. Procuring components through this distributor helps ensure compatibility, reliability, and adherence to the manufacturer’s specifications, reducing the risk of performance issues or equipment downtime associated with non-approved alternatives.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
Spare parts from a different robot manufacturer would not be compatible with the existing system and would not function properly with the current equipment configuration. Additionally, sourcing replacement components from a different distributor introduces the risk of configuration inconsistencies, compatibility issues, and potential performance limitations. Using parts from the current approved distributor ensures the components match the existing robot specifications, maintain system reliability, and support proper operation without unnecessary downtime or integration challenges.
