About this file
This is a Statement of Work for the design, fabrication, and testing of a carbon fiber optomechanical bench for NASA Ames' Coronagraph Testbed (ACT).
The vendor shall finalize the design previously documented in technical report TN 260402 (Issue 1) from prior procurement 80NSSC26P0619 and release final drawings. The bench specifications include dimensions of 1295 x 2565 x 320 mm (±2.0 mm tolerance), constructed as a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) integral structure with coverplates, ribs, sidewalls, and integrated honeycomb panels. Materials include low outgassing epoxy resin for all CFRP components, ventilated aluminum honeycomb core and ribs, and stainless steel AISI 303 inserts (¼-20 thread) mounted 0.2 mm below the upper surface on a 2 x 2 inch mounting pattern with minimum 1 inch edge distance. The vendor shall fabricate the complete table including all steel inserts, aluminum honeycomb, and CFRP layers, then perform bakeout and post-curing procedures. Deliverables include a materials testing report, offgassing measurements and report, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) measurements. The work shall be performed off-site at the vendor's facility with an estimated 12-week leadtime from contract award. The optomechanical bench is intended to support astrophysics experiments in ACT and requires high stiffness and good surface flatness for optimal experimental performance.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements To finalize design, fabricate, and bakeout a new carbon fiber optomechanical bench for the Ames Coronagraph Testbed (ACT). Specifically as part of performing this analysis, the vendor would finalize drawings, fabricate the bench, perform a bakeout, and provide reports on results. Finally, the vendor would deliver the table to NASA Ames.
This optomechanical bench is to be used in ACT to support astrophysics experiments. It requires a breadboard on the top surface to attach optical components, and must be highly stiff and have good surface flatness to allow for maximally successful experiments.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs The contracted vendor shall perform the following duties:
• Finalize the design previously analyzed in their technical report (TN 260402, issue
1) that was produced under a prior procurement (80NSSC26P0619) and release drawings. This design has the following specifications:
o Dimensions:1295 x 2565 x 320 mm ±2.0 mm (51 x 101 x 12.6 in.)
o The table is designed as a carbon fiber reinfornced polymer (CFRP) integral structure, composed of coverplates, ribs and side walls, with integrated honeycomb panels in-between o All CFRP components are made with low outgassing epoxy resin system-o Aluminium honeycomb core and rib structure are ventilated o Mounting pattern: 2 x 2 inches on upper side, min. edge distance 1 inch o Inserts are made from stainless steel AISI 303, thread ¼ - 20 o Inserts are mounted 0.2 mm underneath upper CFRP surface o At the bottom plate inserts are located to mount vibration dampingpads
(TBD)
o -At (4) locations, interfaces are considered to hoist the bench (TBD)
• Fabricate the table per drawings, inclduing steel inserts, aluminum honeycomb, and CFRP layers.
• Perform bakeout of the finalized table, post-curing, providing a materials testing report, offgassing measurements and report, and measurement of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
3. Place of Performance Work to be performed off-site at vendor’s facility,
4. Period of Performance Estimated as a 12 week leadtime from award of contract.
