About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement of a closed-cycle helium cryocooler system for NASA's ICEE (Integrated Cryogenic Equipment and Experimentation) facility at their Ames Research Center.
The cryocooler must achieve a minimum temperature of 9 K or lower with a maximum temperature of 355 K and temperature stability of 3 mK or less. The system requires a cooling power of 60 Watts or greater at 77K on the first stage and 4 Watts or greater at 10 K on the second stage, with an expander weight of 13.1 kg or less. The unit must operate at pressures of 10-11 Torr or lower and include a flat flange configuration with an 8-inch CF flange and four 2.75-inch CF instrumentation feedthroughs. Specific technical requirements include ¾-inch by 20-foot helium superflex hoses with 90-degree elbows, a nickel-plated OFHC copper radiation shield, and a cold finger extension flange adjustable between 10 and 24 inches. The UHV instrumentation package must include a 10-pin UHV feedthrough, wire-wrapped thermofoil heater, curve-matched silicon diode sensor at the cooler tip, and a calibrated silicon diode sensor with 4-inch free length. Vibration requirements specify a maximum of 140 nanometers at the sample with sample displacement limited to ±5 nm total displacement. The system must include an integrated temperature controller with dual sensor and heater control capabilities, IEEE-488 and USB compatibility, PID control zones with autotune, and 75 Watts heater power. All deliverables include helium superflex hoses, installation kit, technical manuals, packing, and shipping. The period of performance extends from contract award through December 20, 2026. The NASA point of contact is Dr. Andrew Mattioda at the Ames Research Center.

Statement of Work for UHV Low Vibration Cryocooler
Background:
The ICEE facility is a state-of-the-art planetary science research facility consisting of three separate stations: a Raman Microscope, an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) chamber, and a Fourier Transform Infrared and Raman Experiments (i.e., FIRE) station. The ICEE Facility is a unique NASA resource capable of replicating the wide range of extraterrestrial environments needed for planetary science research. The purchase of a low temperature, low vibration helium cryo-cooler will enable additional ice experiments,as UHV conditions are needed for accurate ice experiments. The low vibration cryostat will enable imaging of the sample during experimental runs.
Scope and Specifications:
The closed cycle cryo-cooler shall
1. Be capable of a 9 K, or lower, minimum temperature.
2. Be capable of a 355 K maximum temperature.
3. Temperature stability shall be 3 mK or less.
4. Capable of 10-11 Torr or lower pressure
5. Have an expander weight or 13.1 Kg or less, for easy manipulation.
6. Have a cooling power @ 60Hz of 60 Watts or greater at 77K, for the first stage
7. Have a cooling power @ 4 Watts or greater at 10 K, for the second stage
