About this file

This is a Statement of Work for the development of electronics for the Quantitative Elemental Reconnaissance Instrument (QuERI), a two-channel Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) system for spectroscopy and timing applications. The work builds upon NICER heritage design principles and will incorporate an FPGA to replace the microcontroller, with the electronic architecture designed to interface with and control additional system components including mechanical shutters and X-ray source electronics.

The contractor's responsibilities encompass translating science requirements into engineering specifications, developing electronic architecture and detailed schematics, preparing netlists and bills of materials for layout and fabrication, testing and characterizing the fabricated electronics, revising designs based on test results, and preparing comprehensive engineering documentation and reports. Work will be performed at Noqsi Aerospace, Ltd in Billerica, Massachusetts, with a period of performance from March 15, 2026 through September 30, 2026. The contractor shall also participate in interface control document preparation and team meetings throughout the contract period.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

The development of the Quantitative Elemental Reconnaissance Instrument (QuERI) requires the design of electronics for a two-channel SDD system for spectroscopy and timing. Working the from the NICER heritage design, the electronics will integrate an FPGA in place of the microcontroller. Additionally, the electronic architecture will be designed to interface and/or control other system components

(e.g., mechanical shutter, S-ray source electronics).

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall perform the following duties:

• Translation of science requirements to engineering requirements

• Participate in the preparation of interface control documents

• Develop electronic architecture and detailed schematics

• Provide netlists and bill of materials for layout and fabrication and consult on these activities

• Test and characterize the fabricated electronics

• Make revisions to the design as required by the test results

• Prepare detailed engineering documentation

• Prepare reports and participate in team meetings

3. Place of Performance

Noqsi Aerospace, Ltd, Billerica MA

4. Period of Performance

Activities shall be performed March 15, 2026 through September 30, 2026.
