About this file
This is a Statement of Work for NASA's Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) and Orion programs supporting the Landing and Recovery portion of Artemis missions. The contractor, Gyro-Stabilized Systems (GSS), shall integrate NASA-owned FLIR Boson infrared cameras into existing NASA-owned GSS C512 and C516 camera gimbals to enable visual detection of returning spacecraft in the infrared spectrum. The scope encompasses designing, fabricating, integrating, balancing, and testing new mechanical hardware; routing live FLIR Boson video output external from the gimbal; enabling precise bore-sighting adjustment between the new and existing camera systems; and fabricating a protective cover (snout) and protective glass that maintain optical performance for both imaging systems.
The contractor must ensure the internal cameras can roll ±90 degrees without the snout installed, enable adjustable camera roll lockouts when the snout is installed, maintain the current overall lookup angle capability, and design the FLIR Boson system for operator removal while preserving the visual camera system's operational status and balance. Work will be performed at GSS's facility in Grass Valley, California. Initial hardware delivery is required by April 10, 2026, with final glass delivery by April 30, 2026. All completed systems shall be delivered to NASA John F. Kennedy Space Center, ISC Receiving Warehouse M6-0744, Kennedy Space Center, Florida 32899.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements This hardware supports the NASA Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) and Orion programs during the Landing and Recovery portion of the Artemis missions.
Currently NASA owned Gyro-Stabilized Systems (GSS) C512 and C516 gimbals will be modified with NASA owned FLIR Boson cameras to enable the visual camera systems to spot returning spacecraft in the infrared spectrum. GSS will modify the NASA owned systems with additional mechanical hardware and complete the integration at their facility.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs The contractor shall perform the following duties:
• Integrate NASA owned FLIR Boson cameras into the NASA owned GSS C512 and
C516 camera systems.
• Design, fabricate, integrate, balance, and test new hardware for complete integration.
• Provided the live FLIR Boson video output external from the gimbal to the system operator.
• Enable adjustment for the FLIR Boson camera for precise bore-sighting with the currently integrated camera system.
• Provide a protective cover (Snout) for the current and new cameras (FLIR Boson), this cover will protect the camera systems from wind, rain, dust, etc.
• Protective glass for both imaging systems must not impede in optical performance of the camera systems.
• Enable the internal cameras to roll +/- 90 degrees when the snout is not installed.
• Enable camera system roll lockouts when the snout is installed.
• Enable camera system roll lockout to be adjustable for current visual camera system installation either in “portrait” or “landscape” modes.
• The design will not reduce the overall lookup angle of the camera system as is currently allowed.
• The FLIR Boson integrated system and hardware must be removable by the operator.
• When the FLIR Boson integrated system is removed the visual camera system must still be operational with the original snout and maintain balance.
3. Place of Performance Gyro-Stabilized Systems 400 Crown Point Circle Grass Valley, CA 95945
4. Period of Performance Delivery for initial hardware are expected by April 10, 2026, with final glass delivery to follow by April 30, 2026.
5. Delivery Address:
NASA John F. Kennedy Space Center ISC Receiving Warehouse M6-0744 Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899
