About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA's requirement for ultralight products for the STMD Robotically Assembled Light Bender (RALB) follow-on project, specifically focusing on carbon composite materials for lightweight mirrors used to redirect sunlight to shadowed lunar regions. The SOW requires a U.S. contractor to deliver three specific products: composite prepreg (M30S/PMTF7 plain weave), adhesive film (PMT-F7 with glass mat carrier), and carbon core (Apex), all with precise specifications and tolerances.

The contractor must liaise with Sakai Ovex in Japan for production of the MS30SC plain weave fabric, as they are the sole source provider. Delivery requirements include providing original inspection and test reports, certificates of compliance, and using dry ice with next-day courier shipping to NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The total delivery timeframe is 12 weeks after order receipt, with no technical or progress meetings requested. The procurement is a sole-source contract under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i), targeting Patz Materials and Technologies LLC as the exclusive provider of these ultralight products.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 Introduction/Background:

The STMD Robotically Assembled Light Bender (RALB) follow-on project is exploring the use of carbon composite materials to lighten the mirrors used to redirect sunlight to shadowed regions on the Moon. The use of thin-ply carbon fiber/epoxy composites to make the sandwich panels that form the structural and dimensionally stable substrate of the mirrors offer a significant mass saving over the previous panel design.

2.0 Scope of Work: This SOW covers a series of materials to be used for making sandwich panels. Namely carbon fiber/epoxy composite material prepreg to make the panel facesheets, carbon honeycomb to serve as the panel core, and epoxy film to bond the facesheets to the core.

3.0 Objectives: The contractor shall deliver the listed products in accordance to the specifications listed and under the tolerances outlined.

4.0 Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks:

The U.S. distributor/contractor shall deliver to NASA the following products listed on Table 1. These items shall be produced with the specifications listed and under the tolerances referenced:
