About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Glenn Research Center's requirement for two high-temperature laboratory furnaces for in-situ mechanical testing of novel metal alloys. The furnaces must meet specific technical specifications, including a maximum temperature of 1400°C, two independently controllable heating zones, a split cavity design, and a sample viewport for optical interrogation. Additional requirements include a total furnace height of 2.75", a cavity height of at least 1.5", a 2-zone temperature controller, and mounting fixtures compatible with an MTS 810 100kN servohydraulic load frame.

The furnaces are to be delivered to Andrew Ring at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, with a final lead time of 12 weeks from contract award. The procurement is part of solicitation number 80NSSC25910742Q for furnaces designed for high-temperature mechanical testing, specifically for the Materials & Structures Division. The SOW provides detailed technical requirements to ensure the furnaces meet the precise scientific testing needs of the research center.

Statement of Work for procurement of laboratory furnaces

1.0 Introduction/Background: The NASA Glenn Research Center’s Mechanical Test Laboratories in the

Materials & Structures Division requires two high-temperature furnaces for in-situ mechanical testing of novel metal alloys. The furnaces are to be mounted to universal testing machines and provide relatively uniform heating of a central gage section of rectangular test bars.

2.0 Requirements:

The contractor shall deliver two identical furnaces that meet the following requirements:

• Max temperature of at least 1400°C achieved using resistive heating elements

• 2 heating zones (upper/lower) independently controllable

• Split cavity, rail-mounted

• Sample viewport for optical interrogation

• Total furnace height of 2.75”, cavity height at least 1.5”

• Includes 2-zone temperature controller

• Includes mount fixturing to secure rails to MTS 810 100kN servohydraulic load frame (2.5” diameter posts, 21” opening between posts)

3.0 Delivery

The furnaces shall be delivered to the following shipping address:

ATTN: Andrew Ring

21000 Brookpark Rd

Bldg 49 Rm 100

Cleveland, OH 44135

4.0 Period of Performance

Final lead time of all deliverables within this statement of work shall occur no later than 12 weeks from award of this contract.
