About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's requirement for a hydrogen gas generator to support a Mars Propellant Production proof-of-concept unit. The solicitation seeks a MSE PRO High-capacity Alkaline Hydrogen Generator with a maximum flow rate of 5L/min, specifying technical requirements including hydrogen gas production at 5 L/min and 0.4 MPa, with a gas purity exceeding 99.999%, generated using distilled water. The generator will be used in a system that converts carbon dioxide to methane, with the goal of developing propellant production capabilities for potential Mars exploration missions.
The procurement is a sole source contract intended for MSE SUPPLIES LLC, located in Tucson, Arizona, under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). The solicitation indicates performance will occur at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, with a response deadline of 3:00 p.m. Central Standard Time on 7/30/2025. Interested organizations can submit capabilities and qualifications to determine whether the procurement will be conducted on a competitive basis, with the government retaining discretion over the final procurement approach.

Purchase for Hydrogen Gas Generator to support Mars Propellant Production – Liquefaction System (MPP-LS)
Center Investment Proposal

INTRODUCTION
NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is interested in the development of a Mars Propellant Production proof-of-concept which will require a hydrogen (H2) generator that can product H2 from water. The H2 generated will be fed to a reactor that converts carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4) and water. The water can be recycled to produce more H2 from a Martian Atmospheric Simulant (MAS) gas while the CH4 produced can be liquefied and stored as propellant and tested for quality.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s objective is to procure a H2 generator for development of a Mars Propellant Production proof-of-concept unit. This unit will be used to generate H2 from water of varying quality per project scope.
