About this file
This document is a NASA Shared Services Center Recommendation and Determination to Solicit from One Source form for a sole source procurement. NASA recommends negotiating exclusively with iXsystems, Inc. for a TrueNAS F60 storage system and associated support. The total estimated cost is not specified, with a delivery lead time of 3-6 weeks after receipt of order (ARO).
The justification for the sole source procurement centers on compatibility with an existing M40 storage system, standardization across the project, and maintaining an established knowledge base. NASA argues that alternative vendors would create implementation challenges, require extensive product testing, increase management overhead, and potentially raise costs. The procurement is intended to complement existing infrastructure and leverage a proven reliable technology that NASA currently utilizes.

NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION
NASA SHARED SERVICES CENTER
RECOMMENDATION AND DETERMINATION TO SOLICIT FROM ONE SOURCE
OR BRAND NAME
PICK ONE
Sole Source:
☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with iXsystems, Inc. only for TrueNAS F60 and Support. The total estimated cost of this effort is and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 3 – 6 weeks ARO.
OR
Brand Name Justification:
☐I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate only with vendors who can provide the subject brand name from Manufacture Name for product being purchased. The total estimated cost of this effort is Enter Dollar amount and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is Date.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
The product is a complement to a previously acquired / in-service M40 allowing consolidated management of project storage. This brand is standardized across the project and allows for compatibility with existing infrastructure. This brand and type is well documented and there is a knowledge base associated with it across the entire project. This brand and type has been a proven reliable brand that NASA currently utilizes.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
Another brand would create implementation challenges for existing infrastructure and compatibility across the project. It would create a basis for expanded product testing and knowledge base development that would have to be approved through the project that would impact all schedules until the knowledge base matures to a satisfactory level. Purchasing another system would come at an increased cost while simultaneously increasing the management overhead of maintaining differing systems that perform the same job. In the best case scenario, purchasing a system from another vendor provides a solution performs equally as well while still increasing cost and management burden on the system maintainers.
To pursue the evaluation or procurement of an alternate hardware solution would be both operationally cost and time prohibitive.
