About this file
This is a Statement of Work from NASA Glenn Research Center for the fabrication of a new translating sting for their 10x10 Supersonic Wind Tunnel. The SOW requires the contractor to manufacture one Sting Detail (part CR193128) made from 17-4 H900 material that must fit within existing bearings and bearing housing sub-assembly of the 96-inch Translation System. The sting is needed to handle higher model loads based on completed stress analyses.
The contractor must provide all quality assurance documentation including DFARS-compliant materials, dimensional inspection reports, certificates of conformance, and material test reports. NASA will furnish the bearing housing sub-assembly and rod mount to ensure proper fit during manufacturing. The period of performance is 18 weeks from award date, with bi-weekly progress updates required. The contractor must provide 100% dimensional inspection reports, handle any non-conformances prior to shipping, and include a shipping crate for the sting detail. All non-conformances must be evaluated by NASA for possible rework, remake or acceptance "as-is" with any required rework done at vendor's expense.

NASA Glenn Research Center Statement of Work for 10x10 SWT Translating Sting
10/23/17 sdm
A. Background
The 10- by 10-Foot Supersonic Wind Tunnel (10x10 SWT) has a 96-inch Translation System which allows for a sting to travel forward and aft in the test section. Higher model loads require a new sting to be fabricated from stronger material per stress analyses completed by engineering design. The sting shall be made from 17-4 H900 to the same specifications as the original drawing with care taken to ensure it fits within the existing bearings and bearing housing sub-assembly.
B. Quality Assurance (e.g. ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.)
For all parts include the following:
Material to be DFARS compliant.
Dimensional inspection report for every individual part.
Certificate of conformance for all part materials.
Certificates Material Test Report (CMRT) for all part materials.
Certificates of Conformance for surface treatment. (if applicable) Certificates of Conformance for heat treatment. (if applicable) Certificates of Conformance for commercial purchased hardware (if applicable)
C. Reference Documents (e.g. drawings, procedures, computer files, etc.)
PDF part drawings will be provided for the following parts:
Drawing No. CR193128 (Redlined 1/16/25), Sting Detail (Building 85 – 10x10 – Test Chamber – Lower Strut Model 96 Inch Translating System,) Drawing No. CR193136, Rod Mount Detail (Building 85 – 10x10 – Test Chamber – Lower Strut Model 96 Inch Translating System,) Drawing No. CR193179, Bearing Housing Sub-Assembly (Building 85 – 10x10 – Test Chamber – Lower Strut Model 96 Inch Translating System,)
D. Government Furnished Equipment
The bearing housing sub-assembly (CR193179) and shall be shipped to the contractor prior to final machining of the outer diameter and keyway to ensure fit with existing hardware. Rod Mount (CR193136) shall be shipped to ensure proper fit to Sting (CR193128)

K. Non-Conforming Parts
Non-Conforming Parts or non-conformances discovered during manufacturing will be evaluated by NASA Glenn Research Center for possible rework, re-make or acceptance “as-is”. Parts determined to require rework or re-make will be reworked at the vendor’s expense. Non-conformances should be documented in a non-conformance report or highlighted in the inspection reports. Non-conformances are to be identified and resolved before parts are shipped to NASA.
Technical authority and approver for non-conformances will be provided at time of award and the POC for all non-conformance discussions/emails (To be provided at time of award).
L. Government Acceptance
NASA POC will send email to BPA Fab Shop COR (to be provided at time of award) confirming receipt and acceptance.
