About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) outlines requirements for inspection and repair of NASA Spey engine serial number 11189, which is installed on NASA Langley Research Center's Gulfstream GIII aircraft N520NA. The engine requires evaluation and repair due to damage discovered on compressor blades in HP stages 7, 8, and 12 following an inflight compressor stall incident.

The work consists of two line items: (1) Engine removal assistance, shipping, evaluation and preservation, and (2) Engine repairs as approved by NASA. The vendor must provide a subject matter expert for removal support, necessary tooling/fixtures, and shipping equipment, while NASA will provide touch labor for removal. All work must be completed and the engine reinstalled by March 14, 2025. Key deliverables include the repaired engine, documentation portfolio with maintenance records, FAA Form 8130-3 Airworthiness Approval Tags, test results, NDI reports, and engine logbooks. The vendor must provide weekly progress updates and submit repair requests with detailed pricing breakdowns for government approval before performing repairs. All replacement parts must be GIDEP screened and accompanied by appropriate airworthiness documentation.

LaRC Spey ESN 11189 Repair SOW Version 4.0 1/22/2025

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND

NASA N520NA, a Gulfstream GIII aircraft (serial number (S/N) 478), is a NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) public-use aircraft used for research missions. Spey engine serial number (ESN) 11189 is installed in the number 2 position (right side) of N520NA. Due to an inflight compressor stall, a detailed borescope inspection was conducted on ESN 11189 during which damage was discovered on several compressor blades in HP stages 7, 8, and 12.

The damage is unlikely related to the compressor stall.
