About this file

This Statement of Work outlines NASA's requirement for an EQS 1000 series secondary ion analyzer with secondary neutral analyzer attachment from Hiden Analytical Inc. The equipment will be installed in Building 34's planetary magnetospheres laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

The analyzer will be used to conduct analog experiments simulating physical processes on airless bodies in the Solar System, specifically measuring secondary ions produced from solar wind energy ion irradiation of mixed silicate and ice samples. This research supports space weathering phenomena studies on the Moon's surface in preparation for the Artemis missions. The system is described as a standalone piece of equipment that includes all required software and controllers, with no additional parts or services needed for operation.

Statement of Work

The EQS 1000 series, secondary ion analyzer with secondary neutral analyzer attachment requested from Hiden Analytical Inc. will be used in analog experiments to simulate physical processes occurring on the surfaces of airless bodies throughout the Solar System. In particular, the system will be used to measure secondary ions produced from solar wind energy ion irradiation of mixed silicate and ice samples relevant to space weathering phenomena on the surface of the Moon in preparation for the Artemis missions. The analytical instrument will be installed on an ultra-high vacuum chamber in the Building 34 planetary magnetospheres laboratory. The instrument comes with all required software and controllers for operation, and thus is a stand-alone piece of equipment and no additional parts or services are required.
