About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center outlines requirements for microtensile testing and elevated temperature tensile testing of GRX-810 material samples to validate material properties for design.
The work consists of two main tasks: Task 1 involves testing 75 angled wall microtensile samples at room temperature (70°F) according to ASTM E8, with specimens to be machined from 25 provided plates. Task 2 requires high-temperature tensile testing of 30 pre-machined samples at temperatures ranging from 2000°F to 2400°F (6 samples at each temperature) per ASTM E21. The vendor must be NADCAP, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and provide digital data for stress/strain points, yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, reduction area, and modulus. The period of performance is 2 months from authority to proceed, with deliverables including a final test report and digital data for all samples to be shipped to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL.

Microtensile and Elevated Temperature Testing of GRX-810 Statement of Work (SOW)
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) has a need for microtensile testing and elevated temperature tensile testing with an independent laboratory to validate material properties for design.
Task 1, Angled Wall Microtensile Testing:
1. The vendor shall receive all samples and inspect samples numbers.
2. The vendor shall bag and tag samples in preparation for machining.
3. Material quantities shall total 75 samples:
a. 25 plates will be provided and (3) tensile specimens excised from each.
4. Samples are provided as plates with varying angles (cut) and approximately 0.9” x 0.55” x 0.23” thick.
5. The vendor shall face (milling machine or other) each side of samples to remove any surface texture.
a. This should be performed prior to electro discharge machining (EDM) and to obtain an accurate cross-sectional area to reduce uncertainties.
6. The vendor shall complete machining of all tensile specimens (75 total) and shall be controlled to meet all dimensions. Excise samples via EDM or other to geometry per below or internal drawing to maximize material.
7. The vendor shall machine and perform mechanical testing of all samples at room temperature.
8. The vendor shall be NADCAP, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory.
9. Vendor shall complete tensile testing at a temperature of 70F on all samples to obtain for full stress/strain curves according to ASTM E8.
a. Digital data shall be provided for stress/strain points and 0.2% Yield Strength, Ultimate Tensile Strength, % Elongation, % Reduction Area and Modulus.
10. NASA will provide detailed test matrices, if required.
11. NASA will provide return shipping labels for all samples.
Example Specimen Geometry for Angled Walls (inches) Final geometry can be discussed with the laboratory, but material specimen geometry shall be maximized.
Task 2, High Temperature Tensile:
1. The vendor shall receive all samples and inspect samples numbers.
2. The vendor shall bag and tag samples in preparation for machining.
3. Material quantities shall total 30 samples.
4. Samples will be provided by NASA fully machined per drawing NASA MSFC MER05967-
013.
5. The vendor shall perform mechanical testing of all samples according to a matrix provided below per ASTM E21.
a. 2000°F – 6 samples
b. 2100°F – 6 samples
c. 2200°F – 6 samples
d. 2300°F – 6 samples
e. 2400°F – 6 samples
6. The vendor shall be NADCAP, ISO 9001, and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory.
7. Digital data shall be provided for stress/strain points and 0.2% Yield Strength, Ultimate
Tensile Strength, % Elongation, % Reduction Area and Modulus.
8. NASA will provide return shipping labels for all samples.
Drawing Titled: “High Temperature Tensile Specimen, 0.25 DIA GAGE”, MER0597-013 (inches).
Period of Performance (POP)
• 2 months from authority to proceed (ATP)
Shipping
1. Contractor shall ship all deliverables and returned samples to:
Marshall Space Flight Center Central Receiving, Bldg 4631 Attn: Paul Gradl Huntsville, AL 35812
