About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity related to a leadership training course. The expected outcomes of the training include participants gaining confidence and competence, respecting and collaborating with potential mission members, caring for themselves and others, understanding their strengths and areas for growth, functioning under difficult circumstances, making informed decisions, communicating effectively, and appreciating a minimalist lifestyle. The training is a prerequisite for candidate selection for the CHAPEA mission, which is a scientific study, and the potential candidates for the second mission must undergo the same training as the candidates for the first mission.

Text version
The vendor shall provide a seven day leadership training including the supplies required for the training and meals for the duration of the course. The final number of participants will be finalized at a later time. The participants shall improve their competency skills in wilderness and leadership. Expected outcomes of the training is for participants to gain confidence and competence; respect and collaborate with potential mission members; care for themselves and others; understand their strengths, habits, and areas for growth; function under difficult circumstances; make informed and thoughtful decisions;
communicate effectively; and appreciate living simply.
The simulation of living on Mars involves a minimalist lifestyle which NOLS can help the candidates appreciate the simpler lifestyle prior to the start of the mission. In order for the mission to be successful the selected crew must be able to work together as a team. NOLS is a legacy-based training for NASA astronaut candidates and was previously used for CHAPEA’s first mission. The completion of the NOLS course is used for the candidate selection process for CHAPEA crews similar to the NASA astronaut down selection process. CHAPEA is a scientific study, and to maintain the integrity of the data the potential candidates for the second mission must undergo the same training as the candidates for the first mission.
