About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity related to providing Load Cells for Phase 2 testing of the PPE Lunar Roll Out Solar Array (LROSA) slit booms. NASA requires 6 degree of freedom load cells that can measure loads/moments at each end of the LROSA slit booms, with a capacity of 250lbf per axis at the boom tip and 1,000lbf per axis at the boom root. The load cells must be available off-the-shelf and shipped within 1 week of the procurement order to allow NASA to verify operation prior to the start of Phase 2 testing on November 12, 2024. The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source procurement for the Square Three Axis Load Cell TRCD-B-250 & B-1K from Michigan Scientific Corp. The government intends to acquire these commercial items using FAR Part 12 and FAR Part 13 procedures.

Statement of Work
TITLE: Load Cells for PPE Phase 2 Testing
SCOPE OF WORK:
NASA requires a method for measuring 6 degrees of freedom (loads/moments) at each end of the PPE Lunar Roll Out Solar Array (LROSA) slit booms during the phase 2 testing. The load cells contain only 3 axis measurement capabilities, but they will be configured in such that all 6 degrees of freedom will be able to be measured at each end of the slit booms. Additionally, the load cells must minimize their physical size while providing capability to measure (250lbf per axis for boom tip; 1,000lbf per axis for the boom root) as they will be implemented into an existing test setup. Calibration reports with cross talk shall also be provided. Phase 2 testing is set to begin on November 12, 2024, so the load cells to be purchased are required to be available off the shelf and shipped to NASA within 1 week of receiving the procurement order by the vendor. This will allow NASA to checkout and verify the operation of the load cells with the NASA data acquisition system prior to the start of phase 2 testing.
