About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the repair of a Mitsubishi MD + PRO II Wire Electrical Discharge Machine (WEDM) located at the NASA Ames Research Center. The SOW specifies that the vendor shall commission the WEDM to meet OEM specifications and industry standards, including assembling the mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems, replacing memory batteries, setting software parameters, testing and verifying operations and safety systems, and providing training to NASA personnel. The period of performance is 2 weeks after award. The related federal contract opportunity, Solicitation Number 80NSSC24877870Q, is for the repair of this specific WEDM machine located in the Space Science & Astrobiology Division at NASA Ames Research Center. The solicitation is being issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center.

Statement of Work for

EDM Wire Machine Repair

Scope: The wire electrical discharge machine in the Ames Space Science Airborne Instrument Development Lab is an essential part of our manufacturing approach especially in areas of close tolerance, thin-walled or delicate parts that need to have material removed with no cutting forces. We will need this machine for various laboratory research applications supported through Internal Scientist Funding Model (ISFM) efforts.

The machine has been sitting unused without power for several years, so the condition and integrity of the machine are unknown. As such, there may be additional time and materials required to repair the machine. Nevertheless, the vendor should anticipate failed memory batteries, lost parameters, stuck axes, contamination, etc.

If this machine is not repaired, we risk not being able to meet current goals for ISFM work awarded to the Laboratory Astrophysics group.

Specifications: We would like to repair One (1) Mitsubishi MD + PRO II Wire Electrical Discharge Machine (WEDM), Model #: BA8, located in the Space Science & Astrobiology Division, Code S at NASA Ames Research Center.

The vendor shall commission the WEDM to adhere to OEM specifications and industry codes, standards, and practices to ensure safety, reliability, and performance; further, provide consumables, EDM wire spool, and deionized water to ensure that the machine is fully operational by the end of the above stated term.

The vendor shall provide qualified technical personnel and supplies to successfully complete the project as follows:

- Assemble mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and control systems.

- Level and align machine and systems.

- Replace memory batteries.

- Set software parameters.

- Test and verify operations.

- Test and verify safety systems.

- Provide applications and maintenance training to Code STA personnel.

- Cut a test part for inspection.

If the machine operates as intended and the test part meets acceptable tolerances, the Ames Instrument Development Lab Manager, Emmett Quigley shall deem the project complete.

Period of Performance: ARO – 2 weeks
