1.0 Background

The Sustainable Flight Demonstrator (SFD) project supports the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) Sustainable Flight National Partnership to accomplish the aviation community’s goal, as laid out in the U.S. Aviation Climate Action Plan, of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Concern over climate change has created an opportunity to target new aircraft technologies for the next generation of single-aisle airliners, which account for greater than 40% of worldwide aviation emissions.

The SFD project is a NASA-Boeing collaboration through a Funded Space Act Agreement.

Under this agreement Boeing will develop, build, and test a Transonic Truss-Braced Wing concept demonstrator which will significantly reduce risk on high aspect ratio aerodynamics, thin wing aeroelastics and integration, external/internal loads, stability and control, and propulsion integration necessary to create a path to a commercial Vision System and new product family with Entry into Service (EIS) in the 2030s. The SFD project is one of several sustainable aviation activities under the Sustainable Flight National Partnership.

2.0 Objectives

The SFD project has a requirement for scaled display models of the X-66 SFD aircraft for numerous purposes including public outreach (e.g., events, air shows, public presentations, museum events), communications with stakeholders (e.g., congressional events, industry outreach, aviation conferences, sustainable aviation events), and STEM education (K-12 presentations/events). The requirement is for 1 large-sized “floor model”, 12 small desktop models, and associated packaging as described in the SOW.

Some of the models will be packaged in a manner suitable for local transport for local events and others will be more robustly packaged to support standard shipping methods or transport as carry-on luggage.

This procurement is consistent with display models developed for similar purposes supporting other large flight demonstrator development projects within the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

(NASA) ARMD.

3.0 Requirements

The contractor shall provide the following:

• One (1) 1:30 scale model (approximately 58.8in length, 69.7in Wingspan) of the X-66 Sustainable Flight Demonstrator aircraft with the following attributes:
