About this file
This statement of work outlines refurbishment services required for a 935 nm pulsed laser. Fibertek will set up the laser in a cleanroom and inspect all components, replacing any damaged parts. They will optimize the 1064 nm oscillator, 1064 nm amplifier, 532 nm second harmonic generation, and OPO legs. Temporal mode beating will be minimized by optimizing cavity locking parameters. The fully refurbished laser must deliver a minimum of 1.5 mJ at 935 nm and over 5 mJ at 532 nm and 7 mJ at 1064 nm, with 80 us delay on the 1064 nm amplifier timing. NASA will provide previously procured optics as government furnished equipment. Fibertek must submit a written report and deliver a fully functioning laser meeting the outlined metrics. The maximum cost is set at $150,000 assuming a November 1, 2023 start date under solicitation 80NSSC24850908Q, a special notice from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center for these refurbishment services.

Time and Material Contract Statement of Work for Refurbishment of 935 nm Pulsed Laser
September 27, 2023
Background
Fibertek has developed for NASA a high‐power pulsed laser for water vapor profiling for use in the High
Altitude Lidar Observatory (HALO). This laser was developed under previous SBIR contracts NNX14CL19C and NNX15CS59C. This laser was integrated into the NASA HALO system and successfully used aboard multiple aircraft for atmospheric research. Over the past four years of operation, the laser performance has degraded and optimization is required to bring the performance back to levels commensurate with those during original delivery of the laser in 2019. The pulsed laser is required for use in a mission critical airborne campaign in May 2024 and a full refurbishment of the laser by Fibertek is required prior to this deployment to ensure measurement requirements are satisfied during the airborne mission.
Statement of Work
This statement of work is for a time and materials order to set up the 935 nm water vapor laser, evaluate components that require cleaning and or replacement, optimize the laser alignment and laser locking parameters, and deliver a fully functioning pulsed laser. Specifically, Fibertek shall:
Set up the 935 nm pulsed laser in a cleanroom and get baseline performance
Carry out full laser inspection including the 1064 nm oscillator, 1064 nm amplifier, 532 nm second harmonic generation, and OPO legs. Replace damaged components and compromised sub‐assemblies.
Optimize the 1064 nm resonator and amplifier legs.
Optimize the OPO seed, cavity, and pump alignment.
Optimize 1064 nm and OPO cavity locking parameters through evaluation/minimization of temporal mode beating.
Carry out full laser system test to ensure long term (day‐to‐day) stability
Clean, stake, and purge the entire laser system and re‐evaluate full laser system functionality.
Deliverables
Fibertek shall submit a written report describing the tasks carried out to improve the performance of the laser carried out under this task.
Fiber shall deliver a fully functioning 935 nm pulsed laser with the following metrics:
o >= 1.5 mJ of 935 nm output with 80 s delay on the 1064 nm amplifier timing.
o >5mJ of pulsed optical output at 532 nm and >7 mJ output at 1064 nm
NTE Ceiling
The maximum projected cost estimate for this task, assuming a start date of November 1, 2023, is
Government Furnished Equipment (GFE)
Given NASA has previously procured many of the optics that will likely be replaced during this contract, NASA will provide the previously procured optics as GFE. NASA will additionally provide a seed laser to injection seed the 935 nm leg of the OPO.

1064/808 nm pump dichroics
1064 nm ½ waveplates
Amplifier negative lens kit
Amplifier quartz rotator
Resonator & amplifier slabs
SHG crystals
1064/523 nm dichroic mirrors
532 nm turning mirror
OPO crystals
OPO mirrors
935 nm seed laser
935 nm spectral purity cell
