About this file
This statement of work outlines a requirement for a coupling spacer with exhaust holes to be installed in a multi-stage axial compressor facility at NASA Glenn Research Center. The vendor will replace an existing spacer assembly with a dimensionally identical component featuring exhaust ports to mitigate heat transfer to the gearbox. Additional requirements include inspecting and replacing fasteners on the coupling, maintaining the current shim thickness, balancing the assembled coupling, and delivering engineering drawings and the finished balanced assembly. Completion of the spacer is required within 30 weeks of the purchase order date, with inspection and delivery milestones to be determined. Non-conforming deliverables will be evaluated and may be accepted as-is or require rework at the vendor's expense.

Background W-7 is a Multi-Stage Axial Compressor Facility in the Engine Research Building at NASA Glenn Research Center Lewis Field. The facility has historically used an Ameridrives coupling between the test article and gearbox. Currently the coupling features a passthrough allowing heated Boreflow to pass from the article through the coupling and out the gearbox. In an effort to mitigate heat transfer to the gearbox, NASA is requesting a spacer featuring exhaust ports.
Scope of Work to be Performed Replace spacer assembly 438120-001 from DB-414490-001 with a dimensionally identical spacer featuring exhaust holes similar to spacer 436977-001 from assembly DB-413711-002.
Wireway assembly is NOT required.
Inspect coupling and replace all used fasteners (plus provide 10% extra). Maintain current shim thickness, may replace shim with dimensionally identical shim.
Balance Coupling Assembly to standards as stated in drawings DB-414490 & DB413711.
Milestones Completion of spacer in 30 weeks from PO or sooner.
Inspection to be completed in parallel as applicable.
Deliverables
New spacer dimensionally identical to 438120-001 featuring exhaust holes Engineered Coupling Assembly Drawing featuring new spacer Balanced Coupling Assembly featuring new spacer
Non-Conforming Deliverables Non-Conforming Deliverables will be evaluated by NASA Glenn Research Center for consideration of acceptance “as-is”. Deliverables not meeting the requirements will be corrected at the vendor’s expense. Delivery of corrected deliverables shall be expedited. Actual delivery dates will be negotiated with NASA Glenn Research Center at the time of rework.
