About this file

This statement of work outlines requirements for a two-stage cryocooler for extreme environment tribology testing. The cryocooler must provide a base operating temperature of 12 Kelvin with cooling capacities of at least 25 watts at 20 Kelvin for the second stage and 100 watts at 80 Kelvin for the first stage. Vibratory excitation on the cold tip and room temperature mounting flange must be insignificant. All required hardware for cryocooler operation such as the compressor and gas lines must be included. The cryocooler must have a ConFlat mounting flange for the room temperature mount and be compatible with ultra-high vacuum of 10-7 Torr.

The related federal contract opportunity is a special notice from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center soliciting proposals for the two-stage cryocooler specified in the statement of work to support extreme environment tribology testing.

Statement of Work Cryocooler

NASA GRC requires the procurement of a cryocooler for extreme environment testing of space components.

Requirements Shall be:

Base operating temperature (no load temp) ≤ 12 Kelvin Cooling capacity of at least 25 Watts at 20 Kelvin Two-stage design to enable independent cooling of radiation shroud First stage cooling capacity of at least 100 Watts at 80 Kelvin Second stage cooling of at least 25 Watts at 20 Kelvin Insignificant vibratory excitation on the cold tip and room temperature mounting flange (this is typically accomplished with a remote mounting option for the “motor”) All hardware required for operation of the cold head (i.e. compressor, gas lines, etc.)

shall be included.

ConFlat mounting flange for the room temperature mount.

Ultra-High Vacuum compatibility (≤10-7 Torr).
