About this file

This statement of work outlines a three-day training course on the design and analysis of bolted joints to be held October 25-27, 2023 at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The training will provide an in-depth study of common bolted joint failures in mechanical design for spaceflight projects and specialized techniques for prevention. Topics will include failure modes, design and analysis processes and standards drawing from theory and experience, and NASA technical standards. The objective is to allow for more optimized design and assembly with improved reliability.

The related federal contract opportunity is a special notice from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center seeking purchase of the training outlined in the statement of work.

Design and Analysis of Bolted Joints

Statement of Work

October 25-27, 2023

Objectives:

• This training provides an in-depth study on common problems for mechanical designers including specialized design and analysis techniques for spaceflight project. Rupture under a single application of load, fatigue, detrimental yielding, joint slip, galling, inadequate preload, loss of preload, hardware falling out completely, low or nonlinear stiffness, excessive weight, procurement cost and lead time, incompatibility with the space environment, and time-consuming assembly and disassembly. Proper design of bolted joints can allow more optimized design and assembly processes, improved reliability and better risk criticization.

Scope of Work:

3 Day Design and Analysis of Bolted Joints Course

In performance of this training the vendor shall provide the following training in support the 3-day Design and Analysis of Bolted Joints class.

Development of a curriculum to included topics such as, but not limited to:

i. Build an understanding of how bolted joints behave and why they fail.

ii. Impart effective processes, methods, and standards for design and analysis, drawing on a mix of theory, empirical data, and practical experience.

iii. Common problems that cause bolted joints to fail and how to prevent the problems from occurring.

iv. Help the participants understand NASA-STD-5020A policy.

Place of Performance:

The course will be delivered at the Johnson Space Center Houston, TX on October 25-27, 2023.
