About this file

This statement of work describes a pilot program called the NASA Inclusive Innovation Mashup Lab. The program will be run by Brown Venture Group to increase participation of underrepresented contributors in NASA's technology transfer commercialization process. Brown Venture Group will form consortiums with Twin Cities companies and universities to identify NASA technologies for commercialization. The statement of work then details a 16-week lean startup commercialization bootcamp where underrepresented technical talent and entrepreneurs will be paired to develop investable products from the identified NASA technologies. Participants will receive support from NASA inventors, commercialization coaches, and experts to ideate applications, test market fit, build business models, and identify funding sources. At the end teams will pitch their concepts and investment readiness to committees including NASA and Brown Venture Group. Winning teams can pitch to investors and runner ups to accelerators. Additional goals include creating reusable content for promotion and establishing partnerships with Minnesota universities for technology transfer.

Brown Venture Group – NASA’s Inclusive Innovation Mashup Lab – Statement of Work (SOW)

NASA INCLUSIVE INNOVATION MASHUP LAB PILOT: GOALS AND DELIVERABLES Our proposed public‐private inclusive partnership, would be a first of its kind co‐created model designed specifically to increase participation of targeted underrepresented contributors within the federal T2 commercialization process. Brown Venture Group

(BVG) will form ecosystem consortium groups from amongst Twin Cities Fortune 500 companies and research universities to help identify NASA technologies desirable for commercialization within our ecosystem. The NASA

Inclusive Innovation Mashup Lab will then take this list and match and pair underrepresented technical talent along with underrepresented entrepreneurs to go through lean startup commercialization bootcamps structured to incubate investable new products and services regionally before launching them nationally.

Lean Startup Commercialization Bootcamp: There will be no cost to participate, nor is there a equity stake prerequisite required by Brown Venture Group for any team that launches their own venture through this bootcamp. Participants will work in teams for 16 weeks collaborating with entrepreneurs and commercialization coaches as well as domain experts from amongst ecosystem consortium business and research university groups.

The Lean Startup Commercialization Bootcamp was intentionally designed to be completed alongside a full‐time job or MBA program. During this time they will:

• Form technical and entrepreneurial pairing around selected T2 technologies based on competence, character, and chemistry.

• Have access to the NASA inventors during Inventor Office Hours.

• Ideate commercial applications, test product market fit assumptions, build operational models, and scale their business concepts leveraging a lean startup commercialization framework.

• Identify funding structure and sources such as banks, vcs, SBIR, and federal appropriated funds based on their go to market strategy.

• Co‐create corporate supply chain methods (i.e. build a coupling to establish a roadmap for square peg innovative startups to fit within the corporate round hole)

• Learn from ecosystem and national leaders such as the USPTO, SBA, MBDA, and Twin Cities Fortune 500 CEO’s

At the end of the 16 weeks teams will pitch their final business concepts and product/market fit as well as new venture creation investment readiness to a selection committee, which will include members of NASA T2X office, BVG, and ecosystem consortium business and research university groups at BVG’s office in Downtown St. Paul

Minnesota. Winning Teams will have the opportunity to pitch both local and national investors at an

Underrepresented Founders Demo day. Runner ups will have the opportunity to present to a select group of local and national Accelerator and Incubator (i.e. Bank of America Breakthrough Labs, MSP Equity Fund Project

Vanguard, etc.).
