Statement of Work (SOW) for
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
And the University of Southern California Project:
NASA Extreme Environments Missions Operations (NEEMO) /
Space Environment Analog for Testing Extravehicular (EVA) Systems & Training
(SEATEST) Analog Missions
INTRODUCTION:
The objective of this call is to test Artemis logistics off-loading techniques, pressurized container sizes, and transfer methods using mockups staged on the seafloor. Astronaut evaluators on scuba will be doing the evaluation scenarios, while data is captured by a team topside. This call will be referred to as SEATEST 6. The mockups include 1) a Pressurized Rover aft deck with transfer ports, 2) a lander deck, 3) an Airlock, 4) a Medium Pressure Logistics Carrier (MPLC) with cradle, 5) a davit and “zipline” system for unloading, and 6) small and medium sized Small
Pressurized Logistics Carriers (SPLCs). Mockups till be arranged on grating laid out on the seafloor.
TASK:
Provide use of all facilities and associated support services for mission preparation and real time support. Specifically, provide the following equipment, personnel and services as negotiated in advance and during the mission:
• All required technical dive and operations training
• Documented dive procedures and response plans
• A large, sandy bottom area in 25-40 feet of water in close proximity to the dock
• Space on the dock and power for comm/video gear setup and dive monitoring personnel
• Qualified and trained staff for needs that may arise, such as crane use
• Conference room space, to be used as an MCC and team debrief location
• Support boats
• Scuba and other waterfront gear
SCHEDULE:
SEATEST 6 will occur between
July 18 – August 5, 2023.
• 3-4 of these days will be used for diver training, starting ~ July 20, 2023.
• July 24-29 are scheduled for actual testing.
• July 30 – August 5 are included in the period of performance to accommodate teardown and a mission schedule slip or extension due to weather or other circumstances.
PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE:
The period of performance for this call for the NEEMO 24 Engineering Test is July 18 – August
5, 2023.
