STATEMENT OF WORK
EBIT Electron guns
February 7th, 2023
Background The Athena X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) detector calibration team requires electron guns that are needed for the electron beam ion trap (EBIT) that will be used for calibrating detectors for this flagship ESA mission.
Scope
The Government expects to take delivery of the X-ray source that fulfills the specifications listed below.
Requirements:
We need to purchase 5 electron guns that meet all our project requirements.
We require electron guns with:
- Cathode/heater with 0.25” diameter and SR (TBD) within a gun shell.
- Reference M753 gun sample provided by Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory. Intent is to duplicate all dimensions, cathode type and similar heater
Vf, If and Tk characteristics.
- It must have a constant current application, and no grid.
- Unit is to be mounted within a vacuum chamber and not part of the vacuum envelope.
- Electron guns include cathode Vf, If and Tk test and basic emission confirmation.
Deliverables or Delivery Schedule
1. We require a quantity of 5 electron guns with part number: M753 MOD
2. We require the non-recurring engineering work to develop these electron guns.
3. We require 2D Computer aided simulations to confirm performance with beam simulations and confirm the new design meets the following specification: 200 mA, @5Kv +/- Anode (nominal).
Exclusions: None.
• Delivery Schedule:
o 20-24 weeks after order and design approval.
Government-Furnished Equipment and Government-Furnished Information
• None.
Place of Performance
• The chosen vendor will sell these electron guns from their own location.
Period of Performance
• 7 months
