Simple High-speed Dynamometer Procurement

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

Marshall Space Flight Center’s (MSFC) ER13 Turbomachinery group requires a high-speed dynamometer to complete internal development on experimental couplings. The desired high-speed dynamometer must be capable of providing a 12 kW load at 50,000 rpm. Due to space and funding restraints, the dynamometer must be less than 200 lbs and able to run on AC power. The dynamometer must be able to vary torque within its limits. The dynamometer should be able to report torque and speed through an analog output. An existing, off-the-shelf, solution is preferable.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall perform the following duties:

Supply a simple high-speed dynamometer capable of the following specs o Speed: 50,000 RPM o Rated Torque: 20 Nm o Braking power: 12 kW

Supply other accessories necessary for dynamometer operation ie, cables, mounting equipment, signal conditioners, etc.

ER13 already owns a Magtrol 1-ch controller “006256 – DSP7001-0-0,” and a Magtrol analog output card “006577 – Module, I/O, DSP7000, CAL’D” which provide control and data collection solutions to Magtrol products. These components should be considered when selecting dynamometer solutions.

3. Place of Performance

Magtrol, Inc. facilities in Buffalo, NY

4. Period of Performance

Delivery of hardware should take place 12-14 weeks after contract award.
