Drop Calorimetry Using the Setaram MHT96 Calorimeter
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), specifically NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) has a need for experiments to be performed using the Setaram MHT96 drop calorimeter. Testing will include drops of various silicates and oxides into NASA-provided calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate (CMAS) compositions. The instrument used will be the same as that used for the previous drop calorimeter experiments under the SAA (A18-2482) entitled “Calorimetric Measurement of CMAS and EBC Materials.” The use of this instrument will provide the confidence in achieving consistent results from work that was completed in the past with the Navrotsky group for NASA Aero projects.
Task 1, Drop Calorimetery Using the Setaram MHT96 Calorimeter
1. Vendor shall calibrate the MHT96 drop calorimeter using Al2O3 and Pt to verify CMAS solvent is consistent with prior experiments and volume of the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
2. Drops of Y2Si2O7 powder pellets (NASA provided) are to be performed in the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
3. Drops of Y2O3 powder pellets (NASA provided) are to be performed in the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
4. Drops of SiO2 powder pellets (NASA provided) are to be performed in the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
5. Drops of Yb2Si2O7 powder pellets (NASA provided) are to be performed in the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
6. Drops of Yb2O3 powder pellets (NASA provided) are to be performed in the NASA-provided CMAS composition.
7. Any anomalies during the testing should be reported to GRC Technical Point of Contact (Gustavo Costa).
