Sample Task # 5

HVAC Efficiency Improvements Project

Drawing / Specification Addendum

If the contractor makes any penetrations through the identified firewalls, the contractor shall comply with the following sealing requirements:

Furnish and install tested and listed firestopping systems, combination of materials, or devices to form an effective barrier against the spread of flame, smoke and gases, and maintain the integrity of fire resistance rated walls, partitions, floors, and ceiling-floor assemblies, including through-penetrations and construction joints and gaps.

Required installer qualifications:

a. FM Research approved in accordance with FM 4991, operating as a UL Certified Firestop

Contractor, or

b. Certified, licensed, or otherwise qualified by the firestopping manufacturer as having the necessary staff, training, and a minimum of 3 years experience in the installation of manufacturer's products in accordance with specified requirements. Submit documentation of this experience.

The following fire stop submittals are required and shall be submitted for approval prior to installation:

1. Firestopping Systems - Submit detail drawings including manufacturer's descriptive data, typical details conforming to UL Fire Resistance laboratory and installation instructions.

2. Product Data - Firestopping Materials.

3. Installer Qualifications - The installer shall obtain from the manufacturer and submit written certification of training.

The firestopped areas shall not be covered or enclosed until inspection is complete and approved by the Contracting Officer. Submit written reports when requesting final inspection indicating locations of and types of penetrations and types of firestopping used at each location; type shall be recorded by UL listed printed numbers.
